The Makabe Family owns apartments and a restaurant in the City. Due to their businesses they interact with many people in the City, but for some reason they seem to specifically attract its strangest characters. From fighting a geriatric prankster to harboring a wanted man, the Makabe family have a knack for getting themselves into bizarre situations, and anyone who hangs around them is sure to get caught up in one of their many misadventures.

Tsurubishi Makabe
The owner and head chef of Makabe's Western Bistro. He has a nonchalant, apathetic attitude, and doesn't care enough to deal with details. Despite his apparent lack of motivation, everyone knows that he won't put up with disobedience. He ends up hiring an unwilling Nagumo when Tatewaku tells him she offered to work for the restaurant. Also known as "Chef Makabe" for simplicity's sake.
Tatewaku
Tsurubishi's son. Before Nagumo worked at the Restaurant, he had to spend much of his free time helping his father. Now he dedicates his time to Soccer Club. He's a bit of a pushover. Often the target of Dr. Adatara's elaborate pranks.
Matsuri
Tsurushibi's daughter, a middle schooler. Arguably the most "normal" of the Makabes, she spends most of her time with her best friend, Ecchan.
Obaba
Tsurushibi's mother in law, simply referred to as "Obaba" (Granny). Owner of Mokumesei Manor, the apartment complex that Nagumo and Niikura live in. Extremely stringent, she has amazing strength and wrestling moves to back up her words.
Mrs. Makabe
Tsurushibi's wife. An archaeologist, she is never at home, only visiting occasionally. She sends many artifacts back from excavations, so many that the Makabes have an entire warehouse full of them. Many of the artifacts are actually priceless discoveries, but the family considers it junk, and Mrs. Makabe herself doesn't seem to care when they get thrown out. From what can be gathered from stories, she pretty eccentric.
