James is a resident of Peach Town found roaming around the outskirts, driving by Kinsera's Peach Farm. When greeting him, he talks about how there is a huge Peach tree by the river in Peach Town. The peaches are about to fall, but hitting into the tree can sometimes cause them to fall as well. Unfortunately, as much as James would like to have a Peach, he is not strong enough to cause one to fall. He really would like to taste one and asks if someone could bring him a Peach.

The protagonist makes a trip to go fetch James a Peach and returns with it. They provide it to James who is ecstatic about it as he had always wanted one but the Peach was always out of reach. By helping James, the protagonist is rewarded with Stamp 8.

James is one of the many recruitable teammates available in Peach Town. In order for James to become recruitable, Stamp 8 must be completed, which involves getting James a Peach from the Peach tree. He must also be beaten within any of the races he appears in. Afterwards, James can be recruited to the team.

Trivia

When not serving the player's team, James takes the third place starting point, behind Peo and Diez.
The name James, along with the Stamp 8 task of bringing him a peach, is a reference to the Roald Dahl book/film James & The Giant Peach.
James has the same body as Moisy, the Choro-Q who wants a Canary Recorder.
The Giant Peach Tree and the collectable Peach floating down the river is a possible reference to the Japanese folklore tale Momotarou. The child in that story was found in a Peach, which was coincidentally went down the river stream.
James is one of the few characters that make no statement after you had considered replacing your teammate for him.
