Earthquake

An earthquake is the shaking of the surface of the Earth resulting from a sudden release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere that creates seismic waves. California is infamous for its earthquakes.

While earthquakes are natural seismic events, they can also be caused by immense magical power. Beings with the power of Geokinesis can cause earthquakes at will or when they are angered.

History

1906

The 1906 earthquake was its most famous and deadly event that occurred in San Francisco's history. The quake took place on April 18th. It nearly destroyed the entire city and resulted in over three thousand casualties. The original house on 1329 Prescott Street was destroyed in the catastrophe and was rebuilt into the now-known Halliwell Manor when descendants of the Warren Line moved in and claimed its Nexus.[1]

1981

There was an earthquake in 1981 that allowed the Woogyman to escape its imprisonment under Halliwell Manor. Penny Halliwell was able to banish the demon, with her granddaughter Phoebe watching.[1]

1999

During an earthquake in San Francisco, the Woogyman escaped again and used his power to turn Phoebe against her sisters, as well as influence Paul, Beth Whittlesey and Andy Trudeau. Phoebe was able to break his hold over her and banish the Woogyman with a spell.[1]

2005

Phoebe had a premonition where her then-boyfriend Dex Lawson was holding an art exhibit when a minor earthquake struck and ruined the exhibit. Phoebe tried to prevent it from happening by securing the arts, but Dex moved them back after she left. The earthquake occurred as predicted, but most of the work remained intact. Phoebe and Dex then had a romantic moment.[2]

Magical Occurrences

Barbas

The demon Barbas killed a witch named Tanjella by using her fear of earthquakes against her. The earth around her caused a massive shake that ransacked her shop and ultimately scared her to death. Because the earthquake was mainly meant to target her, nowhere else was affected.[3]

The Seer

The Seer was coronated as the new Source after transferring his unborn child into her womb. This caused a rupture in the coronation hall.[4]

Titans and Gods

Geokinesis

When Demitrius released Cronus, it caused an earthquake in the mountains that caused snow and rocks to fall, nearly burying Phoebe and Paige. After Piper became a Goddess of Earth, she was able to create earthquakes through Geokinesis.[5]

The Charmed Ones

When Paige and Prue touched each other, their magic generated a massive power disruption, causing the earth underneath the Halliwell Manor to shake as the Charmed Ones lost control over their powers.[6]
