Rapton uses the same hairpiece used in 2017 for Krux; this led some fans to speculate that he was a new version of the character before it was confirmed to be otherwise.
Background
An overconfident, egotistical man whose only ambition, by his own admission, was "to hunt dragons", Rapton served as the apparent field leader of the Claws of Imperium. Backed by Imperium Claw Hunters, he was tasked with capturing dragons for use in the plans of his leader, Empress Beatrix, and her lieutenant, Lord Ras. Ras in particular was unimpressed with Rapton's ego, and was proven right after the young dragon Riyu escaped on Rapton's watch. When Arin and Sora came to Riyu's aid, Ras was forced to intervene in order to correct Rapton's mistake, only for the three captives to escape from Rapton with the assistance of Lloyd Garmadon.
This second escape actually played into the plans of Imperium, and Rapton and his hunters tracked the Destiny's Bounty to the Land of Three Mountains, home of Riyu's herd. Rapton's party shot down the Bounty and began capturing the dragons, only for the Ninja and the Dragon Matriarch to join the battle. Rapton ordered his forces to target the matriarch, but was defeated when she supercharged Lloyd's Elemental Powers. Rapton reported this development to Ras, but as this had in fact been part of Ras and Beatrix's plans, Ras did nothing to aid Rapton.
Rapton later became the leader of a group of dragon hunters whom he dubbed “Freebooters”, thinking the name highly piratical. His men and old enemies, the Ninja, found the term confusing, much to Rapton’s annoyance. Rapton attacked the Ninja while they were attempting to return the child of the Dragon Matriarch to her tribe. However, he was soon forced to retreat as the Mountain Dragons came to their aid. Before doing so, Rapton denied any part in the Matriarch’s death.
