Sai the Shadow (or simply Sai) is a monkey hero that appears in Bloons Adventure Time TD. She is comparable to the Ninja Monkey, with camo detection and fast throwing. She is unlocked in the adventure Lemon Grabbed in Lemongrab. Her upgrades consist of improving her shuriken attacks, Caltrops, and the Sabotage Supply Lines/Bloon Sabotage ability, as well as a new 'shadow blob' that causes affected bloons to take double damage for a limited time. She costs $800 to place.

Star Boost

Sai will receive the following permanent boosts as she levels up:

  • 2 stars - Base range increased by 2
  • 4 stars - Base attack pierce increased by 1
  • 6 stars - Base attack cooldown decreased by 0.1*
  • 8 stars - Base attack pierce increased by 2
  • 9 stars - Base range increased by 3
  • 10 stars - Bonus +1 damage to all modified bloons (camo, regrow, etc.)

*Shows "attack speed increased by X" in the official patch notes and in the game - this is misleading. The attack speed stat is the inverse of attack cooldown.

Quotes

Sai is silent and never speaks throughout the game. She only makes a shushing sound sometimes when you select her, and/or deeply breathes and exhales when she is tapped/clicked on too frequently, but one of the other characters randomly will say something when placing her/activating her Sabotage Supply Lines ability. That only occurs if you have the appropriate character(s) on the map before placing Sai.

Strategies

Sai is the only character in the game that can detect camo bloons by default. Despite this functionality, Sai is largely not worth using until she unlocks Bloonjitsu. Bloonjitsu effectively almost quadruples her DPS, and before then, her DPS against any kind of bloon is sub par. Thus, before Level 7, she is primarily useful for cleaning up stray bloons with Seeking Shurikens or slowing down DDTs with Bloon Sabotage.

Once she reaches Level 7, she becomes one of the best DPS towers in the game. Mask of Shadows almost doubles her DPS (although Lemonhope will not affect the shadow clone), although it may not always spawn in the best spot. Her DPS is nearly unparalleled and she can also damage multiple blimps at a time, unlike most DPS towers. Like most towers, she should be given as many attack speed trinkets as possible, so Baker's Shard and the like are recommended, but Dragon Fangs or Lightning Bolts are recommended as her weapon because of her low damage per individual hit and mediocre range. Note that her Tetsubishi do not benefit from any stat except Attack Speed, so the player cannot build specifically for her caltrops.

  • If the player waits on the character screen, Sai will perform some kicks instead of constantly looking around.
  • Even though the Sabotage Supply Lines ability does not affect BADs, other characters can still comment on the Sabotage Supply Lines ability.
  • Sai is the only character (excluding allies) in BATTD who does not speak.
  • There seems to be a pattern in which the characters provide quotes for Sai. The characters who say placement quotes cost less than Sai, while those who say ability quotes usually cost more than Sai (except Finn and PB).
  • Sai is the only character who can detect camo bloons without upgrades or trinkets.
