Armengar, formerly known as Sar-Isbandia, is an ancient moredhel city in Betrayal at Krondor. It is located in the Northlands and can first be visited in Chapter 4.
Description
A funereal pall hung over the broken stone walls of Armengar as thick oily smoke rose from dark cracks in the ground. Scavengers thrived in the ruins, living on the artifacts they found like mushrooms supping on the decayed bones of some old, dead thing. Slowly the moredhel would reclaim their city and restore its ancient name---Sar-Isbandia.
History
Ten years earlier, Guy du Bas-Tyra, then Protector of Armengar, set the city ablaze in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent Murmandamus from retaking it. Fires still burn in the naphtha mines underground, leaving a reeking pall over the wreckage.
During the battle, Bronwyn Alpress was killed by a troll, devastating her young paramour, then-Squire Locklear. A gravestone outside Armengar bears Bronwyn's name, but the grief of her loss never faded.
Asked if he resents the burning of the city, Gorath, though pained at its fate, replies that the moredhel should have done the same when Murmandamus attacked their villages.

Manual
The game's manual relates that during the Great Uprising, Arutha, traveling north incognito in hopes of killing Murmandamus, was taken captive and brought to Armengar, the most impressively fortified city any in his party had ever seen. It further clarifies that the Protector ordered the burning of Armengar in an attempt to destroy Murmandamus's army upon realizing that he would be unable to hold the citadel in the face of the attack. Murmandamus, however, escaped unscathed, with Arutha and the other refugees preceding him to his next target, Highcastle. Armengar, having been completely destroyed, is now peopled by tent-dwelling scavengers and squatters amid the burned-out rubble, while faint smoke issues from a hole on the site of what was once the city's keep.
