The UNCSS Typhoon was a Magellan-class J Scientific Exploratory Vessel assigned to the United Nations Interstellar Settlement Corps' Great Mother Mission and attached to the colony ship UNCSS Ìyánlá. During the mission in 2186, the Typhoon landed on the moon of Arzu and triggered an incident.
History
The UNCSS Typhoon was a Magellan-class J Scientific Exploratory Vessel assigned to the United Nations Interstellar Settlement Corps' Great Mother Mission, a humanitarian effort dedicated to reestablishing contact with the long lost Far Spinward Colonies. During the mission, the Typhoon was docked aboard the colony ship UNCSS Ìyánlá.[1]
In 2186, following the expedition's arrival in the FSC sector, the Typhoon was dispatched to the KOI-2702 System and tasked with surveying Azizo and Arzu, two of the moons orbiting the gas giant Palmyra. Landing on Arzu, the crew of the Typhoon encountered members of the ancient race dubbed the Fulfremmen, along with human cultists from the Children of the Two Divines. The ship was infected by the Fulfremmen and their living Proto-Hive; after a brief fight, most of the Typhoon crew escaped the ship in its two lifeboats, while crewmember Alice Dudgeon stayed behind to overload the reactor and kill the boarders. One lifeboat—carrying pilots Anne Bowers and Anka Karsen, along with Interstellar Commerce Commission inspector David Gideon—landed on Azizo, while the other—carrying captain Leland Barton, navigator Petronella Edouard, prospector Sargis Narene, security officer Azad Rukmini, counselor Gráinne Shields, and scientist Ji-Hye Suk—crashed back on Arzu.[1]
Shortly after, the crew of the UNCSS Solovetsky Island—including Alice's brother, Andi—were sent to investigate, and boarded the Typhoon. While there, they found the dead cultists and Fulfremmen, along with a barely–alive Alice, and were also faced with the Proto–Hive overwhelming the ship. After dealing with the situation, the Solovetsky Island crew embarked on a search for the two lifeboats on Azizo and Arzu.[1]
Behind the scenes
The UNCSS Typhoon appears in Alien: The Roleplaying Game — Building Better Worlds, in which it serves as a location during the fifth mission, "Against a Sea of Troubles". The vessel's precise fate can vary according to campaign events; it can either be obliterated by the players, or it will become a Proto–Hive after a period of time has elapsed. In either case, this article lists the Typhoon as destroyed.[1]
