Tantalus Base was a, mostly underground, secret research facility located on Lethe. Also known as the Tantalus Research Lab, it was situated in the moon's northern polar region, sited on the surface adjacent to near the edge of a mountain ridge, with the bulk of the complex built into and under a mountain. There were a number of surface buildings, mostly administration and support structures.
Overview
Built sometime around the early 2180s, shortly after the Company had discovered a certain secret long concealed by the original colonists, the facility had been sized by the Xenomorph cult known as the Darwin Era sometime before the Xenomorph outbreak on Lethe in 2198 which they were then in the process of engineering. Serving as the primary Weyland-Yutani secure research facility on Lethe, it had focused on analyzing and attempting to exploit material and data recovered from the Olduvai Dig Site. As the head of Weyland-Yutani's research efforts on Lethe, Joseph Marlow was in charge of the facility, prior to his conversion into the 'father'. After he and his cult sized control of the base, its capabilities were perverted to new, darker, goals.

- Somewhat unusually for the Company's Xenomorph related research efforts, the base apparently primarily came under the aegis of Yeyland-Yutani's Xenology Division rather than its Bio-Weapons Division.
- During the development of Aliens Dark Descent, it was referred to as the 'Tantalus Research Station'.
