This article is about the character from Alien: Romulus. For the ship from Alien: Invasion, see Navarro (ship). |
Navarro was a human scavenger and Bjorn's adoptive sister.[2]
In 2142,[3] Navarro worked at Jackson's Star with her adoptive brother Bjorn, and was part of a group that used the Corbelan IV to reach the Renaissance station.[4] Aboard the station, Navarro was attacked by a Facehugger and impregnated with a Chestburster.[1]
Biography
Navarro was a welder and pilot who presumably grew up on Jackson's Star located in LV-410. She had apparently known Rain, Tyler, Kay, Bjorn and Andy for years as there was a photo of them all together. She was taken in by Bjorn's family, coming to see him as a brother.[2]
In 2142, Navarro detected the signal of a derelict Weyland-Yutani ship and coordinated the plan with her group to procure hypersleep chambers so the group could make the nine year journey to Yvaga III and improve their living conditions. Tyler asked Rain for help to let them use Andy as a way to communicate with the MU/TH/UR mainframe aboard the station. Initially reluctant, Carradine and Andy were on board for the heist.
Navarro piloted the Corbelan IV and docked in Renaissance station. She coordinated with Tyler, Bjorn and Andy in recovering the tubes and transported to the ship's hanger. Afterwards, she and the others waited for the boys to finish getting fuel needed to travel. During waiting, Navarro told Rain that Bjorn's grudge against synthetics was because his mother had been sacrificed by one to save other miners. When Bjorn told Andy that synthetics were not allowed on Yvaga III, due to it being one of few locales that was unaffiliated with Weyland-Yutani Corporation, Navarro tried to convince Rain to let him go but was initially unsuccessful (Rain later brings Andy with her).
Navarro was alerted to trouble when an automatic lockdown occurred in a cryogenic lab, trapping the others. She and Rain boarded Renaissance station and assisted in getting their friends out. While Rain was removing the chip from the destroyed synthetic Rook, Navarro found an X-ray torch, which allowed her to see through her arm, and decided to keep it. Navarro went with Rain to give Andy the needed chip only to see the facehuggers breaking out of their artificial chambers, whereupon she started attacking them. Reluctant to help Rain break down the door, Navarro started to become fearful and was hesitant to approach.
After Bjorn, Tyler and Andy escaped, the group was pursued by a horde of facehuggers. While cutting off their pursuers, a single facehugger made it through and attached itself to Navarro's face. Bjorn and Tyler attempted to help but they were unable to move the creature. Rain stopped them from continuing as she noticed the tail constricting around Navarro's neck. After seeing the air sacs inflate and deflate in sync with Navarro's breathing, Andy deduced that it was keeping her alive for an unknown purpose. He stopped Bjorn from using the shock baton on the facehugger, as the shock would have caused the tail to constrict, which would have led to it breaking Navarro's neck. After debating what to do, Rain suggested to reactivate Rook in order to provide a safe way to remove the facehugger. However, Rook suggested killing Navarro for her own good because the facehugger was implanting a "seed" in her which would grow into a xenomorph.
Rain suggested using the fuel to freeze the tail and prevent from further choking. The plan was successful and they removed it from her; however, Rook warned them that the odds of the parasite having successfully implanted its embryo was 60-40. Awake again, Navarro immediately panicked and was confused, not knowing what had happened. Andy attempted to stop her from going back to the ship. Thinking Andy was going to kill her, Bjorn shocked Andy and fled back to the vessel with Navarro, abandoning Tyler and Rain.
Navarro prepared for departure when she started experiencing chest pains, Kay was alerted to her friend's condition and gave her the X-ray torch in an attempt to see the source of the problem. Using the device, they witnessed the chestburster breaking through her ribs. Navarro collapsed and started convulsing and foaming from the mouth, accidentally kicking the controls and crashing the ship into Romulus's hanger bay. The impact destabilized Renaissance, which now had less than an hour before crashing into the rings of Jackson's Star.
Navarro pleaded with Kay not to let her die, but was killed when the chestburster emerged. Navarro's body—along with Bjorn's—was later taken to the hive.
Personality and traits
Navarro was a skilled pilot and was able to pilot the Corbelan IV effortlessly, even using the ship's hanger to catch the cryotubes that were ejected into space from the station.
Personality wise, she was fairly laid back and seemed to have an interest in technology as she was impressed by the X-ray torch that she had found aboard the Renaissance. Navarro seemed to either be religous or at least superstitous enough to pray as she performed some sort of prayer with her necklace before piloting the ship.
Navarro was empathetic to people as she would explain to Rain why Bjorn was hostile to Andy. Navarro was willing to help others beyond her role as a pilot, as demonstrated when she left her station on the Corbelan to try and help Bjorn and Tyler, both of whom were in danger.
During this incident Navarro displayed fear and hesitation in helping Rain open a door that had sealed the others in. This panic was caused upon seeing the facehuggers in the room, one of which had hit the window where she was standing. Fearing that the facehugger would be released, she told Rain not to open the door. This fear would show up again when Andy tried to stop her from leaving due to her potential infection. Encouraged by Bjorn, she fled back to the Corbelan and unwittingly started a chain of events that led to the station to becoming unstable.

Behind the scenes
Navarro's fate was revealed from the initial teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus, and further confirmed by the eight minute footage released at CinemaCon and later with the full officially released trailer. The poster for the movie also reveals her fate.
