Jane Callan

"I didn't join the Spinners because I was a believer. I was just angry. The planet was turning to shit, the extinction colonies, the A.I. taking control of everything...But are we any better off?"
Jane (from Alien: Revival)

Jane Callan was a colonist living at the Garden of Adeline on the moon, Euridice. She was a member of a religious cult of technophobes known as the Spinners, who were contracted by the United Americas to colonize the moon, with the promise that it would be owned by the group after terraforming was complete.

Biography

Early Life and Expedition to Euridice

Jane was originally an employee for the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, before she later joined the Spinners, a religious cult of technophobes that faced constant persecution from the United Americas. Despite being a valued member, Jane herself was not a true devotee, and only joined because she was embittered by the withered state of planet Earth and the immoderate influence technology since had over society. At some point, the UA offered the Spinners an opportunity to leave Earth and become colonists for the moon Euridice, which they themselves would terraform using UA stations. Although the group was incredibly hesitant, Jane convinced them to take the UA on their deal, and she subsequently signed a contract with them that stated once terraforming was complete, Euridice would be owned by the Spinners.

After a successful voyage to the moon, the Spinners managed to terraform Euridice from a barren wasteland into a heavenly paradise, establishing the prosperous colony known as the Garden of Adeline within twenty years of colonization. Jane had since become revered by its members for convincing them to embark on the trip. However, in-between this period, Jane had contracted a deadly disease, which could only be treated on Earth due to the Spinner's rejection of the necessary technology. Although she considered leaving the colony and being cured, Jane was dismayed to realize that she was forced to stay on the moon as contractually obligated, lest the deal between the Spinners and the UA would dissolve, and the group would never be able to claim ownership over the moon. She had since become disillusioned by her responsibility of staying on Euridice, considering it more of a prison than a paradise; once the Spinners had full legal ownership over Euridice, she would leave the moon and seek treatment for her illness.

Xenomorph Encounter

With the day that the Spinners would be granted legal ownership over Euridice finally upon them, Jane and Ambrose, a colonist Jane had feelings for in the past, return back to the Garden of Adeline from a hunting trip. Though Jane subsequently had a brief fall, she refuted Ambrose's concern over her condition, not wanting to divert attention from their big day.

After a ceremony at their church, UA terraforming stations Alpha, Beta and Gamma are all deactivated. Ambrose subsequently found Jane looking out from the station to the horizon, away from the celebrations. She expressed her frustration at being confined to Euridice without being able to treat her disease, and that once the Spinners had legal ownership over the moon, she intended to leave for Earth for the first time in twenty years.

Suddenly, scanners detected the United American vessel, UAS Heraclides plummeting from orbit. The ship subsequently crashed into the local church, and set the colony ablaze. Whilst attempting to fight the fire with the others, Jane entered the ruins of the Heraclides and encountered a Xenomorph Egg chamber. A female colonist suddenly pounced on her, before having a Chestburster erupt from inside of her. The Chestburster briefly acknowledged Jane, before fleeing. After Ambrose caught up to her, she exclaimed that she saw the "dogs of perdition" that had been preached about.

After the chaos is quelled and the fire is put out, a funeral was held for all those who perished. Jane was adamant about what she witnessed inside the ship, but Ambrose and the others did not believe her. Member Gunnar specifically made mention of Jane's illness, surprising her, before she is called aside by Ambrose. Jane angrily questioned the latter why Gunnar knew of her condition, to which Ambrose replied that it had become fairly obvious; he explained to her that the Spinners needed to look up to their leader for solace, not hear of deluded ramblings of monsters from a sickly individual who was practically unconscious from fumes when found inside the ship. Though frustrated, Jane concedes.

The next day, Jane was awoken by the frantic knocking at the door by Gunnar's girlfriend, Tabby. The Spinners subsequently found the horribly mutilated corpse of Gunnar, who was having an affair with Becca, the latter also missing. Jane, Ambrose, and several other members conduct a search for Becca, eventually finding a small hive underneath the greenery - they are horrified to find Becca cocooned, and are suddenly attacked by several Xenomorph Drones. Jane retreated to Ambrose's house, intent on finding his shotgun he erroneously forgot to take with him. Upon accessing his bedroom, however, she saw several Xenomorph eggs laying by his bedside. Suddenly, Ambrose appeared from behind and attacked Jane, revealing himself to be Synthetic.

Subjugation and escape from Alpha

"Your disease is spreading rapidly now, Jane. You're losing feeling in your face, in your extremities...It's all you can do to put one foot in front of the other. Even without the Aliens, how long do you think you have? How do you expect to save these people...from the perfect organism?"
Ambrose (from Alien: Revival)

Ambrose quickly overpowered Jane and subdued her with a Facehugger. As the Synthetic stood over Jane's body, he was suddenly destroyed from behind by colonist Leo with a bat. Jane suddenly reawakened in front of Leo, the Facehugger suspiciously detached from her. After leaving Leo to dissect Ambrose's corpse for information, Jane eventually arrived at the local Church after saving Tabby and fellow colonist Simon within a cornfield, finding several scattered colonists inside seeking refuge.

Leo also arrived, presenting the mangled head of Ambrose, who revealed that after deeming the colonization of Euridice problematic to their interests, Ambrose was sent by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation as a spy, and the Company had deliberately infested the Heraclides as a foil to the UA.

Leo suggested that there may be ships still available at the Beta and Gamma stations, and that the remaining Spinners should promptly migrate. However, senior member Gertrude objects, deeming the entire incident a mere test of faith - she and several other members ultimately opted to stay inside the church.

As Jane, Leo, and several other members distanced themselves from the Garden of Adeline and sever the bridge they had just crossed, they looked on to witness several Xenomorphs invade the church, slaughtering those inside her.

Inside the Mines

Three weeks following the group's departure, Jane has since continued leading the remaining Spinners within the forestry of Euridice. Though she had since attested that she had disposed of Ambrose's head, she was secretly carrying him within her bag to help her navigate. Eventually, following the discovery that the local cave-dwelling fauna known as Tubers had since started scouring the surface, the Jane led the group at her intended destination - a dilapidated mining site.

Scouring the area, Simon begins stressing that the group try to find Sophie, a colonist at Gamma that he had since become infatuated with. However, Jane gently shot him down, desiring to take as few risks as possible. The group eventually find a Daihotai Tractor, its battery still full charge. However, Simon suddenly held them at gunpoint, adamant that he had to enter the mines to find Sophie and abandoned the group. Refusing to leave Simon behind, Jane and the others entered the mine, now a Xeno hive full of human corpses. Going deeper into the depths of the mine, Jane was forced to use Ambrose in front of the others to obtain schematics on the mine, before all of them are attacked by Aliens, accompanied by Xenos born from Tubers. In the ambush, Jane is forced to helplessly watch on as Tabby is seized and a Tuber-Xenomorph crawls down her throat.

Personality and Traits

Although initially an enthusiastic member of the Spinners, Jane's faith in the group waned after contracting an unknown disease that's slowly numbing her body and killing her and being refused treatment due to the cult's ideals. She soon became disillusioned with her restricted life on Euridice, masking her bitterness with straight-faced leadership skills that served as a source of inspiration for other members - she was in fact a natural leader regardless of circumstance, and she took charge amongst the remaining Spinners following the Xenomorph infestation within the Garden of Adeline. Although she was impregnated by Facehugger, she continued living for several weeks without giving birth to a chestburster. As it turns out, the rare disease that's killing her makes her an unsuitable host for Xenomorphs, and upon sensing this other Facehuggers end up avoiding her.
