Spider Cat Triad

The Spider Cat Triad is an organized crime unit in Republic City run by Maly. The triad has faced numerous struggles in the criminal world, and has turned to mercenary work to ensure its survival. It has become particularly renowned for its participation in underground tunnel racing since Kyoko ordered them to infiltrate the races.^[1]

History

The Spider Cat Triad was one of the weakest organized crime groups in Republic City. An airbender called Maly became their leader, as she was the only one to hope that things would get better, and nobody else wanted to organize the group.

While Maly was in such a vulnerable state, she was approached by Kyoko, CEO of the Harmony Park Corporation. The businesswoman wanted to put an end to underground tunnel races, as they were much more popular than her legal, above-ground races.^[2] Kyoko bankrolled the triad to spy on the races, and the money allowed them to have the best automobiles and the best equipment. It also turned out that many of them were fairly competent racers.

Despite the fact they had been hired as spies, the triad genuinely fell in love with tunnel racing. However, they were unconvinced they would be able to continue on their own without Kyoko's sponsorship.^[1] Most of them did not want to go back to being the lowest among the low in the triad ranks.^[2]

Organization

Like many triads, the Spider Cats are under the authority of a sole leader, Maly. However, she only managed to become leader as nobody else wanted the position.

Most of the triad members are stony-faced and stoic, lacking the sort of camaraderie that the other tunnel racers have. Many of them only respond in short, clipped sentences when spoken to directly.^[2]
