Quin

Firebender
This article is about the Fire Nation ambassador. For the Fire Nation War Minister, see Qin. For the opera star, see Quin Yu.

Quin was a Fire Nation ambassador to the Earth Kingdom during the reign of Fire Lord Zoryu.[1]

History

Quin was a high-ranking Fire Nation ambassador, who was assigned to the Earth Kingdom for so long that she had a permanent residence in the Upper Ring of Ba Sing Se, where she lived with her children, Gerel and Keiko. Initially, she was a huge proponent of the task force that Avatar Kyoshi formed to root out violent daofei, and even convinced the Earth King to adopt the task force within Ba Sing Se. As the task force increasingly fell under the Earth King's influence, becoming the "anti-corruption task force", Quin came to mistrust them. She believed that the Earth King was abusing the Avatar's goodwill and name in order to carry out a more personal vendetta against his own citizens; although she did not say such things out loud. She was dissatisfied with the Earth Kingdom politics surrounding crime, including the Earth King's tendency to label any criminals, malcontents, or threats as "daofei".

While Quin was in meetings all day, her personal guard, Tan, took her children out for a treat. While at a teahouse in the Middle Ring, Tan stepped away to deal with a minor issue, and found the children missing when he returned. Tan immediately reported what he saw to Quin, who immediately alerted the Earth Kingdom anti-corruption task force of the abduction.[1] She was determined to find her children after they went missing, and wielded what power and influence she had in Ba Sing Se. While she was desperate to see her children returned to her, she also did not want to cause an international incident that could undo all her hard work over the years. She personally searched the Lower Ring to look for Gerel and Keiko herself.[2]

The evidence at the scene of the crime seemed to point to a known vigilante, Mengyao, as one of her distinctive arrows had been found at the scene. After the task force failed to locate the suspect, Quin ordered her personal guard of firebenders to search for her children. The Earth Kingdom was offended by this, and saw Quin's actions as a direct insult to himself and his capabilities as a ruler, and subtly threatened Quin with punitive action or sanctions, but she invoked diplomatic immunity and refused to back down from the use of her own guards. Unfortunately, this put strain on relations between the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation.[1]

Personality

Quin was a kind and thoughtful woman, and was genuinely working to keep relations between the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom strong and healthy. Her one weakness was her children, but she was not content to simply sit idly by after they went missing.[2]

Abilities

Quin was a skilled firebender, and her signature technique was wielding "flame knives".[2]
