The stinkbug, Pentatoma japonica, is a bug found in New Leaf and New Horizons. It is found on trees from April until October in New Leaf, and March until October but on flowers in New Horizons.

"Stinkbugs are known for their foul smell, enough to drive away most predators and people. The smell is so strong that if they release it in an airtight place, they pass out from their own smell. They like to gather in clumps to stay warm in sunshine, though they will seek out warm houses as well."
In New Horizons
When either donating to the museum or selecting "Tell me more about this!", Blathers the curator will say (with abhorrence):
"I daresay the name says it all... Stinkbugs are known for their stench. Hoo! Peeyew! As it happens, these crop-eating pests use straw-like mouths to pierce plants and drink the juices. And when threatened, they use a smelly chemical in their belly to release their odious odor! Hoo! How DO they live with themselves? "
