The Blox line of Zoids is a set of Zoids featuring parts that fit together in such a way that they can be taken apart and reassembled on to each other or different Zoids.
Overview
Battle Story
In the wake of the Grand Catastrophe, the Eastern Continent's ecosystem was devastated, preventing its citizens from creating ordinary Zoids. This provided the impetus for ZOITEC (a private company based in the Eastern Continent) to develop a new line of completely man-made Zoids which anybody could pilot.
Blox are Zoids with artificial Zoid cores and bodies composed of cubes called “system blocks” that make use of the magnesser system, enabling them to easily come apart and recombine. Although they are less powerful than conventional Zoids of the same class, Blox make up for this with their modularity, low cost and user-friendliness. In addition, they can be converted into weapons systems for conventional Zoids or combine with one another, creating ultra powerful Zoids called Fuzor Zoids.
ZOITEC intended for Blox to be used for peaceful purposes, but the company was forced by the Neo-Zenebas Empire into making them into tools of war. As the Neo-Zenebas Empire was short on manpower, they strongarmed ZOITEC into mass producing large numbers of Chimera Zoids: monstrous blox-type Zoids that could be remotely operated like drones. However, ZOITEC would defy their masters by working in secret with their enemy, giving the Helic Republic a free supply of blox with which to oppose the Empire.
Zoids: Fuzors
Blox featured heavily in the Zoids Fuzors anime, where they are portrayed with the ability to combine with each other as well as with regular Zoids. However, blox are never referred to as such by name and are otherwise treated as if they were ordinary Zoids. Indeed, some blox, such as the Fire Phoenix, Dispellow and Evo Flyer, are characterized as being quite free-spirited, ferocious and difficult to tame. Despite this and other discrepancies, the Zoids Fuzors anime is noted to take place in the same timeline as the Battle Story.
Release
The Blox Zoid model kits were originally released Japan between late 2002 through 2003 and into 2004. Many were released overseas by Hasbro and Tomy under the Z-Builders brand, including a number of exclusives, a few of which appeared in the Zoids: Fuzors anime and were backported to Japan in the Fuzors toyline.
