Shy Guys, also named Mask-Mimics and Mask Mimics, are enemies in Link's Awakening. They are the same species as the Shy Guys from the Mario franchise.
Characteristics
Shy Guys are short creature that always wear a mask obscuring their face. In Mario games, Shy Guys wears robes of varying colors, usually red, which is also the color used by them in the reissues Link's Awakening DX and Link's Awakening for Nintendo Switch.
In Link's Awakening only, Shy Guys are the behavioral counterparts of Arm-Mimics, in that they mirror Link's movement in the opposite direction; when Link moves up, they move down, and when Link moves right, they move left, and vice versa. Shy Guys are invulnerable to Sword attacks because of the mask covering their face, but their backsides are still vulnerable to attack. Link cannot face their backside as a result of the enemy mirroring his every movement, they can only be attacked by charging and releasing a Spin Attack when their backs are turned against each other. Alternately, they can also be defeated by either throwing Bombs, shooting two Arrows at them, the Magic Rod, or the Boomerang. While Shy Guys can be defeated by dashing into them with the Sword and Pegasus Boots.
