The Pan-European Game Information Board (PEGI) is a European video game content rating agency that was launched in 2003. It is in charge of rating the video games released in Europe, Canada and Israel. In Australia it is the Australian Classification Board (ACB), in Germany it is the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK) and in North America it is the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

Ratings

Image Name Meaning
PEGI 3 Titles rated 3 have content that may be suitable for ages 3 and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence.
PEGI 7 Titles rated 7 have content that may be suitable for ages 7 and older. Titles in this category may contain more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or fear. According to Nintendo, this is the age needed for Playing the 3DS safely.
PEGI 12 Titles rated 12 have content that may be suitable for ages 12 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood and/or infrequent use of strong language.
PEGI 16 Titles rated 16 have content that may be suitable for persons ages 16 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and/or strong language.
PEGI 18 Titles rated 18 have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity. Equal to ESRB's M-Rating. some games could contain this rating but either change at a later time or are even not containing any offensive object(s).

Portugal

PEGI 4 The PEGI 4 age rate used in Portugal instead of PEGI 3+ because people easily became confused with the age rating system on movies.
PEGI 6 The PEGI 6 age rating also is to be found in Portugal only, it corresponds to the PEGI 7+ rating found anywhere else in Europe/Australia.

Rating Descriptors

TBC Titles listed as TBC (To Be Confirmed) - have been submitted to PEGI and are awaiting final rating. (This symbol appears only in advertising prior to a game's release.)
PEGI Violence Used in PEGI 7/12/16/18 titles. Shows that the game may contain little/much blood or offensive language.
PEGI Bad Language Used in PEGI 12/16/18 titles. Shows that the game contains mild swearing e.g., sexual expletives or blasphemy.
PEGI Fear Used in PEGI 7/12/16 titles. Shows that the game contains frightening or scary scenes (especially to children).
PEGI Gambling Used historically in PEGI 12/16/18 titles, now exclusively used in PEGI 18 titles. Shows that the game contains elements that encourage or otherwise teach gambling.
PEGI Sex Used in PEGI 12/16/18 titles. Shows that in PEGI 12 titles the game contains sexual posturing or innuendos, in PEGI 16 titles that there is erotic nudity or sexual intercourse without visible genitals and PEGI 18 titles contain explicit sexual interactivity.
PEGI Drugs Used in PEGI 16/18 titles. Shows that the game contains drugs or scenes which could relate to.
PEGI Discrimination Used in PEGI 18. Shows that the game contains depictions of ethnicity, religious, nationalistic or other stereotypes to encourage hate. (and are likely infringe national criminal laws.)
PEGI In-Game Purchases Used in PEGI 3/7/12/16/18 titles. Shows that the game contains the presence of digital goods that can be purchased with real-world currency. (which may include loot boxes, items, card packs, skins, etc)

The Legend of Zelda Ratings

Although the Zelda games have been around longer than PEGI, almost every main Zelda game has a PEGI rating. Almost all have been rated PEGI 7 or PEGI 12 with a few exceptions.
