Dark Dive is a move used by Ganondorf in all of his playable appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series, beginning with Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Overview
Whenever he uses Dark Dive, Ganondorf leaps into the air, and if he hits an opponent, Ganondorf grabs them, inflicting damage before lunging the opponent away with an explosion. It is possible for Ganondorf to use the move more than once in a row if he manages to latch on an opponent again while in midair. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Captain Falcon inflicts electrical damage, which can also affect nearby opponents, but since Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Ganondorf inflicts darkness damage instead. Dark Dive functions similarly to Captain Falcon's Falcon Dive, but has less jump height and, as of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, inflicts less damage.
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Dark Dive was given two unlockable variations: Dark Fists and Dark Vault. Dark Fists involves Ganondorf attacking with two punches instead, the first of which knocks the opponent into the air at a set distance, while the second knocks them away in midair. Dark Vault is essentially a weaker variation of Dark Dive, but grants more jump height.
