The Ball and Chain is a recurring Item in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]
Location and Uses
Twilight Princess
The Ball and Chain is located in one of the northernmost rooms of Snowpeak Ruins, where the mini-boss Darkhammer is found. Darkhammer uses the Ball and Chain as its main weapon, and once defeated, Link can pick it up and add it to his inventory.
The Ball and Chain can be used to break through ice and rocks and inflict heavy damage on enemies. Link can also swing it to damage any enemy around him. Some enemies, such as Stalfos, can be defeated with a single hit of the Ball and Chain. After being thrown, the Ball and Chain will return to Link, causing damage to any enemy in its path back to him. Enemies like ReDeads and Chilfos can be defeated in one throw this way. The Ball and Chain is the only weapon aside from cannons that can defeat Freezards.
When Link holds the Ball and Chain in his hands, it can be used to deflect incoming projectiles, such as Chilfos' ice spears, as well as avoid being blown away by the City in the Sky's strong winds. However, due to the weight of the item, Link moves considerably slower while it is visibly equipped.
Other Appearances
Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors, the Ball and Chain appears as part of Link's Gauntlets Weapon. It is used for the standard attack string, but put away while the gloves are used for other various attacks. The Ball and Chain can be upgraded through Adventure Mode to a golden ball with additional spikes and to a Chain Chomp.
