Crazy Talk

Chavira Crazy Talk Art

Crazy Talk (クレイジー・トーク Kureiji Tōkku) is Pat's stand. It can trigger whenever Pat states anything with certainty, almost immediately causing that thing to retroactively no longer be true. Pat uses this to explain when his statements turn out to be wrong.

Description

According to the Pat's Crazy Talk Compilation video[1]:

Crazy Talk activates unpredictably at times when its user speaks a sentence they are completely certain of. When triggered it instantly alters the world to make the spoken statement false and alters the memories of everyone within its radius to believe that it has always been false.

Despite its incredible potential, Crazy Talk has several known limitations:

  1. The stand user cannot trigger it deliberately. If Pat makes a prediction in the hopes that Crazy Talk will prevent it, it will fail to activate.
  2. The stand user must genuinely believe what they're saying.
  3. Crazy Talk does not trigger reliably. It can fail to activate for no discernable reason.

For copyright reasons, the official English name of Pat's stand is Lunatic Lies.

Origins

A Stand is a superhuman avatar with a unique ability, appearing in the series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. The name Crazy Talk originates from one of Pat's stock phrases; for example, when he disagrees with a statement made by Woolie during the Dark Souls 2 (Full Let's Play), Pat says "That's crazy talk." It also doubles as a reference to the song of the same name by the fittingly Canadian Prog Rock band Chilliwack.

Pat credits the invention of Crazy Talk to Quiet__Viking, who invented its design. He later created the Crazy Talk eyecatch short clip.

Instances of Crazy Talk

  • Viewer Minorou identified over 1,000 instances during the Dark Souls playthrough with Woolie where Pat made a statement which was later found to be untrue. 213 are rated "Completely Wrong".[2]
  • During the Dark Souls 2 playthrough, Pat tells Woolie "You can totally make that jump." He could not.
  • In Dark Souls 3, Pat promised to transfer his save over to the PC version, which would have required save manipulation. From Software suddenly released a patch to make this impossible.
  • On Twitch, Pat clicked his fingers, then boasted of his ability to click his fingers. He immediately failed to click his fingers a second time.[3]

In some instances, Crazy Talk has notably failed to activate.

  • During Pat Streams at Dark Souls 2, Pat declares a gap "such an easy jump" despite multiple bloodstains showing people failing the jump. Pat makes the jump with ease, but reveals that he intentionally made the statement to invoke Crazy Talk, thus ensuring that his stand would not activate.[4]
  • Later in the same stream, while cheesing enemies with the bow, Pat says "I'm like terrified that the Pursuer is gonna fuckin' attack me now." The Pursuer immediately appears. Pat says "Crazy Talk's been upgraded to the max tonight."[5]
  • During Pat's Final Fantasy 7 Remake streams, he wrote down several predictions, which he revealed after the end credits. Nearly all predictions were stunningly accurate. This may be because he wrote them down instead of speaking them aloud, thus avoiding Crazy Talk.
  • In Two Best Friends Play Yakuza 0 (Part 4), Pat announces that he's going to sneeze. He then does sneeze.
