Zara Maria Larsson (born December 16, 1997 (1997-12-16) [age 27]) is a Swedish singer-songwriter.

Personal life

Zara Larsson was born on 16 December 1997 at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, Sweden, to Agnetha and Anders Larsson. Larsson grew up in Tallkrogen in Enskede, south of Stockholm. Her mother is a nurse and her father is an officer. She has a sister, Hanna, who is 3 years younger and is a singer and member of the band Lennix.

Her first primary school was the Gubbängsskolan; she transferred to the Royal Swedish Ballet School in third grade. She also attended the secondary school Kulturama, an art school in Stockholm.

Music

On 30 May 2008, Zara won the 2008 season of Talang, the Swedish equivalent of Got Talent Global, and won 500,000 Swedish crowns in the process. My Heart Will Go On, the song sang by her at the contest, was released as a debut single, charting at the official Swedish Singles Chart, and peaking at number seven there for one week.

In 2013, she released her next biggest hit, the two-part She's Not Me, and on 1st October 2014, she unveiled her first album, 1, that included all her previous songs until that point.

On 5 June 2015, Zara released her second number-one hit, Lush Life, and on 22 July 2015, released her biggest song yet: Never Forget You, a collaboration with British singer MNEK, and on 1 September 2016, she released Ain't My Fault, and on January 2017, released So Good, a collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign, and served as the fifth song in her second album of the same name.

In September 2018, Larsson released her third album, Ruin My Life, and released a commercially successful song by the same name.

Roblox Dance Party

On 18 May 2021, Roblox, Sony Music and Zara Larsson organized a virtual dance party on Roblox . It included a lot of activities for players, such as a trivia quiz and a scavenger hunt.^[1]

She also swore in the event, specifically "I fucking love rhubarbs" leading for it to be a meme on the community.^[2]

Controversy

Feud with James Charles

During the Tati Westbrook-James Charles drama of 2019, Zara made a Tweet in defense of Tati, saying that "I’m cackling cause he hit up my boyfriend in the dms several times knowing damn well he’s straight".^[3]

"Kill all men"

Zara has been repeatedly criticized for making overtly feminist and "anti-male" remarks, saying on Twitter that "I've said it and I'll say it again. Man hating and feminism is two different things. I support both".^[4] One Twitter user replied that "because of girls like her people think that feminism is about hating men". She also claimed that she deliberately stirred up controversy by making such remarks.^[5]
