Mason Lanier (born: December 21, 1999 (1999-12-21) [age 25]), better known online as Symfuhny (or simply Sym), is an American YouTuber, Twitch streamer, and professional gamer known for playing Fortnite: Battle Royale and Call of Duty: Warzone. He is commonly known for playing with other big streamers such as Tfue, TimTheTatman and CouRage. Additionally, Mason is known on YouTube for compilations of his Fortnite edits, Warzone Clips, and High-Kill Gameplay. On Twitch, Symfuhny has over 3 million followers.

Mason joined NRG Esports on March 13, 2019, as a Fortnite player and left on September 1, 2020.[1]

History

Mason first started gaming when his grandparents bought him an Xbox 360; the game he started with was Halo, and then he later moved onto Call of Duty. His parents bought him Microsoft points which he then used to repeatedly change his Gamertag. His friend then came up with the Gamertag "Symfunny"; however, he lost his account and made a new one called "Symfuhny". Mason started streaming for the first time in 2013 on the Minecraft server "OpTic Craft" ran by OpTic Gaming. The reason he started streaming was that a couple of people thought he was cheating.[2] However, he did not regularly stream at this point in his life.

Z1 Battle Royale

In late 2016, Mason started streaming regularly with H1Z1 because he was ranked high on the game's leader board which made people want to watch him.[3] He got partnered pretty quickly on Twitch, and this began his streaming career. H1Z1 was the start of Symfuhny's career; however, he never ended up becoming a big name with that game. He was about to sign to an H1Z1 Pro League team for $50,000 in his senior year of high school; however, he decided not to, which was a great decision because the H1Z1 Pro League flopped, and teams never paid their players. Instead, Mason decided to finish high school, quit H1Z1, and switch to streaming Fortnite, where he started to blow up and eventually become a big name in the community.

The Fastest Editor

On September 12, 2018, a video was uploaded from the YouTube Channel Fortnite Moments titled "Meet Symfuhny, The Fastest Editor in Fortnite". This video got 1,700,000 views in a week and was the start of Symfuhny's blow-up. The video recognized Mason as the fastest editor in the game, at the time, by showing clips of his quick editing of builds. From September to the end of 2018, Mason gained 617,000+ followers on his Twitch account and 266,000+ subscribers on his YouTube Channel.

Blind Date

On May 15, 2019, Tfue would skip playing Fortnite scrims with Cloakzy to find Mason a girlfriend.[4] He referred to Corinna Kopf, who got a fan of hers to play Squads with them. BrookeAB was a small streamer with around 80 viewers at the time, and she had tweeted a picture in Corinna's merch that Corinna saw. Suddenly, Brooke's viewer count went up to thousands as the four of them played together.[5] After this meeting, Mason and Brooke continued to keep in contact and talk to one another while also streaming together. Clickbait videos would get uploaded to YouTube of the two playing together with millions of views, and people would start shipping them. Their Twitch channels blew up, with Mason being the 3rd fastest growing Twitch streamer in May of 2019, behind only Tfue and Ninja, and Brooke being the 6th fastest growing streamer.[6] They eventually started dating on July 26, 2019, and have continued to grow with one another and make each other better people.[7]

Personal life

Mason was born in Texas, United States, and attended Keller High School.[8] He moved to Los Angeles, California, with his Girlfriend BrookeAB, and they live in the 100 Thieves content house alongside CouRage, Nadeshot, and their girlfriends Maddie and Haley. He has a younger sister.
