Shannon Gurr (born: May 16, 1996 (1996-05-16) [age 28]), better known online as shgurr³ (portmanteau of her first and last name, creating a word sounding like "sugar"), is an American YouTube animator known for making storytime animations and music animations.

Content

Shgurr makes animated videos based around stories and moments from her life from when she was younger. She also makes animations such as memes and shorts based on Five Nights at Freddy's.

History

In 2016, she began working on an animated series called Squad 9, but it will be a while before it is revealed due to school. In 2016, Shgurr became best friends with the animator CrazedCake (formerly Creative Bunny 45) and they made multiple collaborations together, starting with their Timelapse Meme. Many speculate the two artists are involved romantically, with their fans shipping them with one another. People also believe they are roommates.

From 2017 to 2019, she made storytime animations detailing stories of her life, similar to popular YouTube animators including JaidenAnimations and TheOdd1sOut, though in a much less frequent pace because she was still in school at the time. Some of her final storytime videos were "Draw My Life" ones that explained her dark past that she managed to overcome.

Throughout 2020, she was on hiatus due to her having surgery performed on both of her feet due to a longtime condition known as Plantar Fasciitis. She has recently returned, but with all her story animations deleted or set to private, leaving behind just her music animations. This is because she felt she was broadcasting her mental illness, which she did not like, so she has also stated she will no longer be doing storytime animations and instead focus on music videos, short films, and stuff involving the characters used in her music videos, plus her original characters from the deleted videos.

In early 2022, she restored some of her deleted videos and announced her return in making storytime animations.[1]

On April 7, 2022, at around 10:50 AM UTC time Shgurr's YouTube channel was hacked. The hacker/s would change the name of her YouTube channel to Bored Ape Yacht Club, private all of her videos, and start a livestream regarding NFTs.[2] Around 20 minutes later at 11:32 AM, the livestream would be cut short and the channel's profile picture and banner would be removed. The channel name and videos would be restored a few minutes later and Shgurr would make a post regarding the hack.[3]

On July 13, 2022, Shgurr created another channel titled "shgurr³", where she's able to post commentaries frequently since she says animation takes time.

Personal life

Childhood

Shannon Gurr was born on May 16, 1996, in California to two parents along with a brother. She has a total of nine siblings. She has said she doesn't remember much about her childhood since most of her time was focused on watching cartoons such as SpongeBob SquarePants. She also grew up going to church around this time, being a heavy believer in Jesus Christ. However, she was bullied in school and church by other students and adults, which made her friendless. For example, at 12 years-old, she thought she was friends with a girl at her seminary. However, when she was inviting other people to her birthday party, she didn't invite Shgurr because she didn't think she was "cool".

Teenage years

As a teenager, Shgurr closed herself from human interactions and had the idea to obey what people told her to do. She described herself as "miserable" and thinking peoples "existence was a nuisance." She created her YouTube channel on October 19, 2011 as she was bored and didn't want to communicate with other people. At her church camp kickoff, she met a girl where they talked until eventually beating each other up. Shgurr said this helped give her more emotion and hope in her life.

After graduation

Shgurr went on to graduate at her school in 2014. At 19 years old, she went on trips for her church to teach people about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She traveled to Canada and learned the doctrine and French. Shgurr was assigned a trainer, which she described as abusive and toxic. The trainer never informed her about their plans and expected too much of her. Eventually after six weeks, she was assigned a new sister where she treated her more fairly and got along very well. Around this time, she also suffered from pain in her feet which gradually got more severe as she stayed in Canada. Shgurr attempted to get home in California to get treatment for her pain, but the mission presidents lambasted her for her attitude and said she was "sinning against god."

After she went back home to California, Shgurr was diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis from her feet pain and had to attend physical therapy. Shgurr went to do YouTube full time as to escape from reality. She suffered from depression at this time and almost attempted suicide by driving her car off a cliff. However, after thinking about her family and the situation her death would put her family in, she decided not to go through with it. Shgurr went to attend college in Utah (she currently lives there and it is shown she lives in Utah from Apartment Atrocties video) where she was earning a degree in animation. Eventually Shgurr slowly recovered from her depression as she was able to live with the sister from her missionary and was able to relate to the My Hero Academia character, Shoto Todoroki. In 2020, she underwent surgery in order to fix her feet but had to take a hiatus from YouTube. She lives with the sister from her missionary, presumably one of her best friends.[4] She is demisexual, biromantic, and on the asexual spectrum, making her a part of the LGBTQ+ community.[5] She is also neurodivergent, as she's autistic and has ADHD.
