Lucas Hauchard (born: January 27, 1996 (1996-01-27) [age 29]), better known online as Squeezie, is a French YouTuber known for his gaming, vlog, and music videos.[1][2]

He is the most subscribed YouTuber from France, having over 18 million on his main channel as of 2023. In fact, he is commonly referred to as the "French PewDiePie".

Personal life

Childhood

Lucas Hauchard was born in Vitry-sur-Seine, in the Val-de-Marne region of Île-de-France, to his mother, a child psychologist, and his father Thierry, a computer scientist. He grew up with his entire family in Haut-de-Seine and has an older brother named Florent and two half-sisters. His brother often liked to joke about Lucas having a big forehead. According to Lucas himself, his hair looked a lot like Tintin's at that time.[3][4]

Video games

Lucas' first experience with gaming was with consoles like the PS1, PS2, and the GameCube. He was always playing with his brother. They also discovered music together: Lucas claimed that without his brother, he would never have known bands like The Offspring or Sum 41, or discovered the gaming consoles. He even remembers that when his father gave his brother his PS1, their dad installed a modchip to play all the games in the world, resulting in a large collection of games, including the most violent ones like Tekken 1, 2, 3, and 4 at that time.

Their mother hid some of these games because she felt they were too violent, and the children would often search for them. They also enjoyed playing Crash Bandicoot together. The two brothers also played Mario Kart on GameCube. At that time, his brother drove the Kart, and Lucas launched the items. Lucas believes that his brother introduced him to video games. When they were young, Lucas and his brother had limited time on the computer (from 6 PM to 7 PM for Lucas, and from 7 PM to 8 PM for Florent).

One day, while his brother was playing on the computer, Lucas was in the middle of a battle on "Dofus". Impatient to use the computer, his brother turned it off abruptly. This angered Lucas, who in frustration punched a picture frame and ended up with 18 stitches on his right hand due to his cut tendon.

School

He considered his education level to be "good, but a bit average," because he was somewhat mischievous.

In the video titled "Squeezie FACE A FACE" created by FNU (Rémi Sello), Lucas explained an anecdote from his time in primary school: He had a pencil with a small eraser where its end was slightly cracked. While scratching his ear with it, the eraser broke off and became stuck inside his ear canal. As a result, he spent two hours in the principal's office trying to remove the eraser with tweezers. However, the principal was unable to remove it, so Lucas was taken to a specialist who extracted it. Fortunately, Lucas didn't suffer any lasting effects and still hears well to this day.

He had his left ear pierced in fourth grade and appeared as the "king" of his elementary school. However, two weeks later, three other boys also pierced their ears, so his wasn't anything extraordinary.

In high school, he was often absent (He said that would usually skip one or two courses out of three). Nonetheless, he was a good student and was "friends" with his teachers.

Graduation

In July 2023, at 17 years old, Squeezie passed his Baccalaureate with an average score of 13.8/20. He expressed his intention to pursue studies for an Advanced Technician's Certificate in film editing/camerawork. However, his plans were derailed due to excessive absences throughout the year, largely because of his involvement in video projects.[5]

Relationships

Lucas was in a relationship with Gwendoline Asquin, also known as "Sweetie," from June 2012 until June 2015. They announced their relationship on August 11, 2015, in a video. After that, he dated Marie Palot, a TV host for the J-ONE manga channel, until December 2017.

YouTube career

2008 to 2010: First steps on YouTube

  • Before becoming Squeezie, Lucas had two other channels: "Dofusbouclier" and another unnamed one. "Dofusbouclier" had no subscribers and only two videos dating back 9 years ago. The first video had over 700 views, and the second had more than 1,900 views at the time he presented both channels in a video. Currently, "Dofusbouclier" has more than 20,000 subscribers and over 200,000 views.
  • His second channel was called "TheVideobc2", where he started playing Bad Company 2.[6]

2011: The beginning of "SQUEEZIE"

  • Squeezie watched many videos from Diabl0x9 and BeastModeIII and was inspired to create his own. When he started making videos, he struggled with acne and didn't feel good about himself. As he played more video games, he became more immersed. Initially, he wasn't very comfortable with his videos and tended not to articulate enough.
  • He began his videos on FPS (First-Person Shooter games) in March 2011. His oldest non-deleted video was released on March 3, 2011, featuring the game Crysis 2. Gradually, his subscribers boosted his confidence.
  • In December, he, along with his friends FeZzo and NGZ, created the famous parody of Max Boublil's "J'aime les moches" titled "J'aime Call Of."

2012-2014: Rise to Popularity

  • In June 2012, he started dating "Sweetie". Initially, Lucas appeared unpleasant and occasionally aggressive (even violent) towards Gwen, as seen in their video playing Tekken. However, they later got along much better.
  • He noticed a significant difference in popularity between Paris Games Week 2011 and Paris Games Week 2012. He started his Let's Play series on Max Payne 3 and reached 50,000 subscribers.

2013: Meeting with Cyprien

In early April, he collaborated with Cyprien on CyprienGaming.

  • He reached the milestone of 500,000 subscribers.
  • That year, he started his "Let's Play on Tomb Raider". In September, he launched the "Question Time" concept.

2014

  • In 2014, Squeezie reached the milestone of 2,000,000 subscribers. To celebrate, he released a compilation of funny moments and a video asking his subscribers to donate to an association. In total, over 22,536 euros were donated.[7]
  • That year, he also did a Let's Play of Alien: Isolation, a horror game, which was very successful.
  • He thanked his subscribers towards the end of the year in his video titled "THANK YOU". He expressed gratitude from the heart, acknowledging that it was thanks to his subscribers that he was where he was, and that he loved his daily life so much.[8]
  • As a Christmas present for his subscribers, on December 29, he launched his Squeezie app on the App Store and Google Play Store.
