Arin Joseph Hanson (born: January 6, 1987 (1987-01-06) [age 38]), better known online as Egoraptor, is an American YouTuber, voice actor, comedian, gamer, rapper, and former animator who primarily uploads original animations of his creation. He also uploads music videos from his band, Starbomb.

History

Arin first became famous on the flash animation site Newgrounds, where he is the most subscribed-to user. Before becoming popular on he stated he would never upload his animations on and always keep them on Newgrounds, but he retracted the statement and has uploaded his animations since. He's also known to voice many of the animations he creates and in other animations, having a very talented voice. He has a number of popular series he creates. In Awesome Series, a series of short animations which parody popular video games. It's currently his most popular series, getting him the most views. Popular entries include PokeAwesome, Metal Gear Awesome, Awesome Reach and Awesome Gaiden.

In Lemon 'n Bill, An animation series of an anthropomorphic lemon and bullet that travel through various video game worlds. In Girlchan in Paradise!!, a collaborative effort with Joshua "TomaMoto" Tomar to make a parody of Shonen anime. In Sequilitis, a commentary series in which Arin compares a video game and it's sequel with each other. In 2019, Arin created a channel under the name "Dr. Cecil H.H. Mills" to promote the upcoming Game Grumps book Ghost Hunters Adventure Club and the Secret of the Grande Chateau where he portrays a fictional uncle of his who had written it.

The Tester

In late 2011, Arin was chosen through votes to be a contestant on Sony Computer Entertainment's The Tester, a reality show contest where the winner would be rewarded with $5,000, a PS3 and and offer as a game tester for Sony. He was fired only after the third episode, being accused of using the show only to promote his channel, which caused many viewers to drop the show. Arin stated that his experience on the show was very negative and that they edited footage to skew what the producers wanted.

Game Grumps

In July 2012, Arin started a gaming channel with Jon "JonTron" Jafari called GameGrumps, where they would both play modern and classic games together, posting two videos everyday. Both Arin and Jon gained a large following from this channel as well. In June 2013, Jon left Game Grumps and was replaced by Dan "Danny Sexbang" Avidan.

Starbomb

In April 2013, Arin began working on an album for his new band Starbomb, which he worked on with NinjaSexParty duo Leigh Daniel "Danny" Avidan (stage name Danny Sexbang) and Brian Wecht (stage name Ninja Brian). The band is a combination of NinjaSexParty's sexual themes and Egorapror and Danny's love for video games. Their first album simply named "Starbomb" and was released on December 17, 2013. A second album was made December 16, 2014 named Player Select.

Arin Hanson vs. Harley Morenstein

In May 2022, Hanson fought and was defeated by Canadian YouTuber Harley Morenstein of Epic Meal Time in a boxing match which was part of the charity event Creator Clash, hosted by fellow content creator IDubbbzTV.^[1]

Arin Hanson vs. Jarvis Johnson

On 24 January, 2023, it was announced that Hanson will face American YouTuber Jarvis Johnson on Creator Clash 2: Influencers Will Pay on April 15, 2023 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.^[2] On the night of the event, Hanson defeated Johnson via 2nd round TKO.^[3]

Controversies

Racism

In 2019, Arin would make several posts on Twitter saying he was anxious to make a statement on the Black Live Matter movement.^[4] However, some fans pointed out that Arin used to say the N-word or use racist caricatures in his old Newgrounds animations and Game Grumps Let's Plays. One example was in a live stream where Arin wanted to remember what was the most racist thing he said, to which his girlfriend, Suzy says he dropped off a black person and proceeded to call him the N-word multiple times.^[5]

On June 4, 2020, the Game Grumps twitter account would make a post about the Black Lives Matter movement. In the post, they show their support towards the BLM movement while also condemning racism and bigotry. They also acknowledge that they've made dark jokes towards minority groups and apologizing to those they've hurt, also saying they'll try to be better. ^[6] While the majority of people praised the Game Grumps, others still criticized them for their jokes.

Every Storytime Animation

On July 31, 2019, YouTuber Sr Pelo uploaded a video titled 'Every StoryTime Animation', which was basically a parody of all storytime animators. However, Arin wasn't happy with the animation, saying he got made fun of making cartoons and it would just hurt his feelings. He also calls out Newgrounds animators for patting Pelo on the back, despite Arin being an animator along with others.^[7] Sr Pelo reaches out to Arin saying it wasn't meant to hurt anyone, and he would make a video explaining all the jokes.^[8] But people like OneyPlays told Pelo that he shouldn't change his humor just because of this. One day later, Arin posts an apology post, but some criticized him for complaining about his past sense of humor on Newgrounds. Pelo had said that he and Arin had spoken and they were cool with each other.

• In 2015, Hanson guest starred in an episode of the popular American animated series Rick and Morty where he voiced the photography cyborgs.
• Hanson got the chance to interview Studio Trigger animators Hiroyuki Imaishi and Yoh Yoshinari.
• He uploaded a video on the Game Grumps channel where he reviews his own Wikipedia page.
• He thinks that video games should use the right joystick not for controlling the camera, but as a thing you have to spin around for the entire game, much like a pedal on a bike. The reason why is because he thinks that thumbs make controlling the face buttons of the controller way too easy so he thinks that the thumb should be forced to spin around the right joystick for the entire duration of a video game.
• He played Ocarina of Time with an all characters nudity romhack to make fun of the game and he got angry when YouTube didn't let him upload it. He says he wasted his great commentary on a video that can never be released.
