―Dead Meat's Intro since January 2024

James Anthony Janisse (born May 6, 1989 (1989-05-06) [age 35]), better known online as Dead Meat, is an American YouTuber, movie reviewer, comedian, vlogger, gamer, and the host of the Kill Count who first made his YouTube debut on the channel Practical Folks.

Personal life

In his videos, he has explains that he has also worked as an editor and has even acted in movies and shows. although only as background characters. His notable citations of work include being a minor writer for TMI Hollywood (2014), an editor for Powerhour (2016-2017), and a camera and electrical department manager for Lee Martin's The Midnight Hour. His small acting jobs include The Look-See by Crypt TV as Raymond, Powerhour, Hashtag (as Beach Guy), So far from God (Cal), Talons (Lineup Man No.1), Chewy (Michael McCrane), and some other short scenes.

YouTube history

James had first started his career as a YouTuber in the US State of Michigan on January 13, 2014, but was later turned into an LA-based group that consisted of his wife Chelsea Rebecca, as well as friends James Graessle and Joel Arnold.

Since then James made the Dead Meat channel, where he mostly covers horror franchises with Kill Counts, as well as Podcasts about horror movies and shows. He also does this with Chelsea as his co-host.

James also records some of the horror conventions he goes to, where sometimes he meets iconic slasher movie actors, such as Kane Hodder (Played Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Parts 7–10), Nick Castle (Played Michael Myers in the Original Halloween and briefly in the 2018 remake of Halloween), James Jude Courtney (Played Michael Myers in the 2018 remake of Halloween), and Jeffrey Combs (who was in the Re-Animator trilogy), and many others asking them for interviews on their careers as horror actors. He also attends multiple premiers of different movies if he has a chance to do so, as shown in a few of his videos.

Kill Count

The main reason people watch his channel is for his Kill Count series. A weekly series where James will take a horror film and count the kills in it. At the start of the video he will talk about the films impact (director and behind-the-scenes, how much the film means to him, etc.) and then he plays clips from the movies while he recaps them. Whenever someone dies he will keep track of it and at the end he will typically do a funny gag to "Get to the numbers".

He will then tally up a number of how many people perished, then sort the kill count in a pie chart by gender as well as a kill-on-average figure, found by dividing the film's length by its total kills and multiplying that number by 60. After the pie chart and kill-on-average figure, he awards 2 medals, one is the Golden Chainsaw which goes to his favorite kill in the movie, followed by the Dull Machete for his least favorite kill. Some series will have bonus awards such as Saw, Jurassic Park and Final Destination. Additionally, some zombie movies will have the Coolest Zombie award, if any.

Dead Meat Podcast

The Dead Meat Podcast is ran by His wife, Chelsea,[1] The Podcast often putting hours of research into each episode. The podcast episodes vary in what they are about (Movie Reviews, Games, Guests, etc.) Of course, to stick with the theme of the channel it is still Horror Related almost all the time. The podcast episodes are typically more laid back and can be seen act a lot more freely as the Podcasts are not scripted.

Other Series

James does other series besides Kill Counts and the Dead Meat Podcast. Majority of these videos are now moved to Dead Meat Presents..., a channel reserved for non-Kill Count related content. These include:

  • Ranking Videos, where he will either rank all films in a series, or top favorite kills from a series.
  • Video Game livestreams, such as his recent Doom playthroughs.
  • Cut Comparison, where he will typically take the Directors Cut and the Theatrical Cut of different films, and compare them.
  • Kill Count Trailers where James and his editors make trailers for upcoming movies on the Kill Count.
  • They Talk!, created by his friend, producer, and editor Zoran R Gvojic from YouTube channel Lowcarbcomedy, where we hear the killer's thoughts.
  • Dead Meat Horror Awards, which is a yearly award show which rewards movies from the year before based on different categories.

Quotes

  • "The movie begins with..."
  • "(Creature) fight!!!" (Usually spoken when there's a fight in the movie.)
  • "...in the FACE!" (Usually when someone gets an injury in the face.)
  • "TITLE CARD...!"
  • "Mmm... (food)" (Usually started as 'Mmm... drugs', but used to the extent of food. Derived from Homer from The Simpsons.)

  • One of the most infamous clips of James comes from the kill count for the 2018 film Mandy; James is shown with an ax similar to the one used by Nicolas Cage in the film. Upon the conclusion of the video, James places the ax on the shelf and begins to walk away, only for the ax to fall off the shelf and break into two, much to James' despair (the clip is shown at the end of the Mandy review, as well as briefly at the beginning, when James discusses what happened and that the makers of the ax sent him a complementary replacement).

After Deathgasm, James returned to the Kill Count with Stranger Things 3.
  • Chelsea also made a Kill Count for American Psycho and American Psycho 2 in 2022. She would later make a Kill Count for another film Bones and All and a Kill Count for the video game Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc; both of them came out during 2023.
