“ | Hey what's up everyone it is Custom here, and I'm back with another video. | ” |
―Custom's 2016 intro |
Matthew "Matt" (born: August 28, 2002Discord related videos.
), better known online as CustomName (or simply Custom), is an English YouTuber and former model known for hisHis content consists of Discord tips, skits, secrets and informational videos. He currently has over 160,000 subscribers and 10 million views.
History
CustomName in his early years went through many avenues of social media and in real life jobs. Between 2009-2012, Custom did modelling for several companies including ‘Toys R Us’. In 2014, Custom created an Instagram account related to Minecraft which amassed over 30,000 followers before deleting his page in early 2015.

CustomName originally started making content on YouTube around the popular game, Minecraft, in late 2015. Custom started pursuing the Mineplex YT rank, which he eventually obtained on the 14th August 2016. After obtaining the rank, Matt reduced the amount of uploads monthly before completely quitting his channel in April 2017 for thee years.
Between 2017 and 2020, Custom undertook multiple other avenues in the online community. He founded ‘Something for Everyone’ in September 2017, became a manager for the popular music channel “RadiantBass” in June 2018 and worked alongside SoundDrout throughout 2019. However, once the Covid-19 pandemic caused widespread lockdown and the passing away of his Mother in April 2020 he decided to return to content creation on his “CustomName” channel.
Custom returned officially to content creation on 2 May 2020, with his first video back being a collaboration with Discord YouTuber, SoundDrout. Throughout the spring and summer months, Custom uploaded four or more times a week which resulted in his long term growth. This growth slowed down after Custom began university in September 2020, resulting in only four uploads in 2.5 months.
In December 2020, Custom returned from Semester 1 at university and continued to upload on his channel. This return saw the likes of new channel art, new video styles (skits), collaborations with big YouTubers (SoundDrout, PickSurprise, JB Adventures, Silent Memer, FakerUp and many more). At the end of December 2020, Custom ordered a new microphone to replace his old model.
In January 2021, Custom started to post again regularly – with each video amassing tens of thousands of views. On the 12th of February 2021 he reached 100,000 subscribers. He continued uploading regularly until August 2021 in which posts began to slow down. By January 2022, uploads eventually stopped. In August 2022, Custom moved to Ontario in Canada for university. He did not upload during this initial period. He eventually uploaded again on the 28th January 2023. In this video he mentioned that he plans to upload a couple times a month, until regular uploading would resume from June 2023 onwards.
Content
CustomName frequently makes videos where he talks about Discord tips, tricks and methods. He occasionally makes videos related to events, although these do not tend to do as well with his audience due to the style of his channel. Custom’s Discord content varies massively, with ‘fun’ videos being his initial introduction to the topic in May 2020. Between June-September 2020, Custom primarily focused on informational content which saw the uprising of his “Discord Secrets”, “Discord Nitro”, “Discord Tips” and “Discord Explained” series’.
Between October 2020 to January 2021, Custom has started to change his content once again. He has been doing a roughly 50/50 split between “informational” videos as seen in the summer, and “comedy” videos which often consist of skits. He has spoken about this publicly, and one key reason for the change in content is to allow more freedom in 2021 to produce higher quality and more enjoyable content.
From January 2021, Custom uploaded mainly current affairs content related to technology and social media companies. These were primarily related to Discord. These featured a new type of content, which had background gameplay included as well as very up to date topics. There were still occasional fundraising, skit, and entertainment videos.
From January 2023, Custom explained in his explanation video that he would continue posting Discord and social media content though plans to change and improve the quality. He stated his intentions to eventually upload and post different forms of content that differ from social media information. We are yet to see what this could be.

Discord originally partnered Custom’s old “Something for Everyone” server on the 21st December 2017. This was partnered until October 2020, when the server was departnered as a result of code of conduct violations related to Custom’s resignation. In September 2020, Custom’s Magical World (Custom’s YouTube Community) was partnered. As of January 2021, Custom is still partnered with Discord. In April 2022, the partnership was revoked due to a requirement that the server needs to keep to remain a Discord Partner.
Mineplex YouTube Rank[1]
Custom originally obtained Mineplex YT rank in August 2016. This rank was removed in April 2017, after he quit the community and content creation scene. Mineplex gave him “YouTube” rank in December 2019, due to his works on “RadiantBass”. He is now in occupation of this rank purely for his personal channel, and as of December 2020 has been putting the Mineplex IP address in his descriptions. As of the end of 2022, Custom no longer has YouTube rank due to inactivity. He may get this back in the future, if he begins uploading regularly again.
Hypixel YouTube Rank[1]
Custom has applied twice for Hypixel YouTube rank, but has subsequently been denied. He plans on reapplying when he reaches 100,000 subscribers in accordance with their Hypixel Rank Requirements. Channel eras
From December 2015 until April 2017, Custom uploaded multiple times a month. This period did not bring him much success, as he only obtained around 3,000 subscribers. It is not known if he will ever make this content public again, although he has mentioned that he has unprivated all the old videos he wishes to at this current stage of time.
From April 2017 until April 2020, Custom did not upload a single video on his personal channels. This was his radio silent era.
From May 2020 until January 2022, Custom was uploading on an active basis. This is his Discord/ Social-Media content era, which has seen great success with hundreds of thousands of subscribers gained and millions of views.
From January 2022 to January 2023, Custom went inactive on YouTube due to medical/ mental-health/ external issues. These were explained in a video published on the 28th January 2023.[2] From January 2023 onwards, Custom will be uploading Discord/ Social-Media content again. This will be 1-2 times a month until June 2023, as explained in his video on the 28th January 2023

On 21 December 2017, SFE became partnered with Discord and unlocked special features. He has outlined many times, that the community was created to allow a server accessible by everyone no matter race, sexuality, religion, gender or nationality. By the time Custom resigned from running the community in late October 2020, the community was at a staggering 70,000+ members, 1,000+ Twitter followers, 1,000+ YouTube subscribers and had several notable members including TommyInnit, VoiceoverPete, JustVurb and SoundDrout.
