Cartoonizando

Mateus^[2] (born: January 26, 2001 (2001-01-26) [age 24]),^[3][4] better known online as Cartoonizando, is a Brazilian YouTuber known for making videos where he talks about cartoons and animated movies.

History

Early life

Matheus was born in Recife, Pernambuco, on January 26, 2001, and spent most of his childhood living with his father (who has a YouTube channel called Homem simples) that worked in the hall. The earliest known memory of Matt watching cartoons was watching the Behind the Scenes extra from the first season DVD of SpongeBob Squarepants.

During his childhood, he was traumatized several times with cartoons, which would be revealed in the "Moments that traumatized him". His father bought a camera, his first microphone and a computer, while his mother (according to Matt's words she was like the Devil) was against everything he wanted.

At the age of 12, he read his first creepypasta which was about ICarly since he was a fan of ICarly and he found this creepypasta on a website called Mundo da Lua which talked about the character Fred died and was replaced by an actual different actor and Nickelodeon was hiding this, which it is why Fred has shoes in the first season and in the other seasons he doesn't have. At his head, he thought it would make sense. He explained this at his school and his friends were very scared after hearing it.^[5]

When he was at a suburban city on Brazil, there were less children so he didn't had time to play. While he was at school, he was very good and smart.

Early career

Back in 2013, Colônia Contra-Ataca! was making a Q&A livestream at that time, and one person asked, which editor he used to make his video, and he responded that he uses Adobe Premiere. This caught the attention of Matt becoming a YouTuber, while he registered his YouTube account back in 2007.

He "legally" downloaded Adobe Premiere and started to make clumsy animations with a green screen of a car crashing and exploding. Theses videos weren't uploaded until Matt had the brilliant idea of making a video of things people didn't knew about Regular Show, and he made that video with Behind the scenes features. Before putting a big length clip of an episode and uploaded to YouTube. But when he checked it, it was saying that has Copyright claim, and as a result, he didn't knew how YouTube worked at that time and he thought he would lose the channel with a Copyright strike just like Canal Nostalgia when got deleted because of a problem with FOX, and Matt would delete the video to avoid getting a strike.

This said first video is considered as lost media, while the file of the video was on an old laptop that it was stolen and never found, alongside some LEGO videos. To replace that video, in 2014, he bought a new computer and made his second video called Hora de Aventura - Coisas que Você Não Sabe!!!, which would become his oldest available video on the channel.

Movie Reviews

Cartoonizando's main content revolves around movie reviews, those are videos where he talks about animated movies while pointing out flaws, plot holes and mentioning the good parts of it. Most of the time, he reviews terrible movies (eg. Arctic Dogs) or movies that almost no one remembers (eg. Help! i'm a Fish) but once in a while, he also reviews animated movies in a positive way (eg. Over the Hedge).

Top Cartoons

From 2016 to 2019, Matt used to do a lot of lists where he ranked cartoons from worst to best. Most of his top lists revolved around negative things (eg. Top 10 Worst Adult Cartoons, Worst Cartoon Spin-Offs, etc.) something even Matt joked about in one of his videos ^[7].

Things You Did not Know

Matt's early years on YouTube revolved around video game and cartoon trivia that most people didn't knew about. He stopped this kind of content years ago.

Investigating Icebergs

He has a 7-video playlist on YouTube all about icebergs that were found on Reddit.^[8] The duology of The YouTube Videos iceberg and Lost Media icebergs were his own icebergs however.

Horror Videos

There are 29 videos (1 being private) of horror videos on the channel (eg. the Ghostwatch video). Some of his videos were about mysteries and disturbing moments in cartoons, while others revolved on moments that traumatized him as a kid.

Style

In every video he is in, Matt is being represented by an avatar based on his appearance in real life. He also has an evil alter-ego called "Mad Matt", which is normally known for wearing red clothes and having black hair in contrast to his blue clothes and dark brown hair.

CartoonRecap

In 2018, Matt created a secondary channel called "Mattons" which was hosted by Mad Matt. At the start, the channel's content revolved around short videos where he expressed his opinion on topics involving cartoons, and in June 12, 2019, Mad Matt started a new series on the channel called "Cartoon Recap".

At some point, Matt realised that he was only posting Cartoon Recap videos on the channel, so in 2021, Matt changed the channel's name to CartoonRecap and, ever since then, he only posts videos about it.

Cartoon Recap is a series where he talks about the newest news revolving cartoons, companies and movies while giving his opinions about them. In those videos, he first talks about important news which have detailed information and, near the end, there's a section he calls "Quick News" where he talks about other news which can be easily explained in a few lines.

CartoonizandoLIVE

In August, 2022, Matt created a channel called CartoonizandoLIVE where he makes livestreams of video games and sometimes other content. In the chat, he will respond some questions that appears.

According to Matt, in his first livestream, he always wanted to do this.

Hiatus

Sometime in May, 2022 to August, 2022, he went in hiatus after the video, O PIOR do 'universo Bob Esponja' - Cartoonizando!, due to his previous home being so annoying, because of "24 hours of Noises". For example, during the morning, a neighbor playing loud songs, same as the bar playing in the night.

It was very hard to focus on making videos, so he left his house and packed his things to find a better place in Brazil. Currently he is at the city where his old house stayed, but in a new house. That's why he is active now.

Controversy

On February 20, 2023, Matt was involved in a controversy when he showed his opinion about his opinion on Brazilian YouTube and react channels. Matt was ungrateful towards smaller YouTubers who reacted to his videos claiming they were stealing his content as well as his views, although he has previously praised bigger channels like Cellbit and Luba for reacting to his videos. In the same video, he also criticized the content of Brazilian YouTube, finding it terrible and inferior to American YouTube, in addition to showing hypocrisy in claiming that Brazilian YouTubers only copied American content or that no big Brazilian YouTuber watched him. Matt was also criticized for his excessive use of English words while speaking in the video, including using words like "cringe".

This led to Matt having a big loss of subscribers and also being canceled on Twitter being the target of a joke portrayed having fetishes for Americans and hatred for Brazil. However, this eventually led Matt into with threats of suicide which led the public to worry about him. After a treatment Matt posted a video on April 15 apologizing and justifying part of his previous words.^[9]

Trivia

• His first video ever was an ad campaign for "Avitrin", a medicine for birds.^[10]
• There were rumors that Matt was planning to leave Brazil to live in the United States,^[11] but this was contradicted in his apology.
• Even through he is Brazilian, Matt stated that he rarely ever watches Brazilian channels, since he is inspired by American YouTubers such as Saberspark and because he wants to be different from other Brazilian cartoon youtubers ^[12].
• Matt used to show Fanart sent by his subscribers through twitter in all of his videos, but In August of 2020, Matt announced that he stopped using Twitter because it is a "Awful Website" and created a email so people can send fanart to him without twitter, and he also announced that he would stop showing them in videos.^[13]
  • In 2022 however, he came back to use Twitter again, an example of him using Twitter is when Mad Matt used it to use the middle finger emoji.
• He never showed his face on the internet until August 27, 2023, where he made a live playing Left 4 Dead 2 and then showed his face^[14].
• His father owned a YouTube channel titled Homem simples, where he made culinary content and he even made two videos commenting on Matt's situation during his cancellation. However, the channel is now owned by Matt and his father and it's name became "Pai & Matt" after a livestream where Matt reacted to his older videos.
