Bumpty

Bumpty (Japanese version: Ta-kun (ターくん Tā-kun, romanized as Tar-kun)) is a bouncy blue penguin enemy appearing in the Yoshi (series).

Yoshi series

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Bumpty first appears in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, first appearing in the level Ride the Ski Lifts.

In the game, Bumpties can be seen at the peak Yoshi's Island located in the snowy-themed area. In the game, they cannot injure Yoshi and rathermore bounce him back when he touches it. They cannot be defeated by Yoshi and even cannot be swallowed by him. They cannot injure Yoshi either, making them even in terms of strength.

Yoshi's Story

Bumpty reappears in Yoshi's Story, first and only appearing in the level Frustration.

In the game, they act exactly the same as they did in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, but are allowed to be swallowed by Yoshi.

Yoshi's Island DS

Bumpty reappears again in Yoshi's Island DS, first appearing in Slip Slidin' Away.

In the game, they act exactly the same as they did in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, but this time can be defeated with Baby Bowser's flame breaths.

Tetris Attack

Bumpty reappears in Tetris Attack appearing exclusively in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version.

In the game, he, along with Dr. Freezegood are under the spell of Bowser and must be challenged to a tetris game to break free from the spell. He also mentions that he is referred to as "cute", but prefers to be called "cool" as he is irritated by being called cute.

Paper Mario series

Paper Mario

Bumpty reappears in Paper Mario.

In the game, Bumpies are not enemies and are therefore allies. They notably appear in Shiver City, their hometown. Three notable Bumpies called Herringway, Penguin Patrol and Mayor Penguin also first appear in the game. Prior to Bowser's arrival in Peach's Castle, Bumpies can be seen in the area as well.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Bumpty reappears in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. In the game. they live in Poshley Heights. A new notable Bumpty called Pennington appears first in this game.

Mario series

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3

Bumpty reappears exclusively in the Japanese version of Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, appearing only in the level Taa-kun ni Ki o Tsukero.

In the game, Bumpty resumes its ability to bounce Mario/Luigi back, but this time can be defeated via hammers or fireballs.
