Etymology
The English name, Rudy, could be spelled to reference the color "ruby" with a backwards "b" to look like a "d," most likely to acknowledge his reddish hue. It could also be seen as "rude" as a reference to, as Jibanyan stated in the first episode of the English dub in western territories, being his "wonderful personality," which acknowledges Jibanyan's rude and sometimes obnoxious behavior. It could also be a play on the word "ruddy", meaning red in color.
Akamaru is the combinatione of "aka" (赤), which means red in Japanese, describing his red hue and "maru."
Trivia
