Nagatha (Japanese: おつぼね様 Otsubone-sama) is a Rank C Drain-attribute Yo-kai of the Eerie tribe introduced in Yo-kai Watch.

In Yo-kai Watch, Nagatha is one of the Yo-kai required to unlock Dandoodle.

Nagatha is a fair-skinned Yo-kai with a large grinning mouth full of dark gray teeth and has sharp pointed ears. Her hair covers most of the upper portion of the face and is a light raspberry color. She wears a black and pale pink dress with sheer tights and pale yellow heels to match her cellphone. She also resembles fellow Yo-kai Chatalie.

In Yo-kai Watch 2, Bony Spirits Nagatha have white teeth.

Nagatha is harsh and critical and does not suffer fools lightly nor gladly. She tends to act more superior, nitpicking at small details.

Anyone possessed by Nagatha will become rather surly and nag the living daylights out of other people for any infractions they see.

She and Copperled were once married, but eventually divorced due to their fights.

Nagatha appears under vending machines and cars, and in trash piles everywhere in Downtown Springdale during the day.

She can also be freed from the Crank-a-kai with a Purple Coin.

Yo-kai Watch 2

There are two versions of Nagatha in Yo-kai Watch 2 with the Bony Spirits version being rarer. The two versions have different skills.

Nagatha can be found under cars, vending machines, in the grass and flower patches at the Excellent Tower as well as under cars and vending machines in Blossom Heights.

Yo-kai Watch 3

Nagatha can be found under vending machines in Downtown Springdale.

She can also be found in a Yo-kai Spot on Mount Wildwood.

She can also be found in Blasters T in the Statue of Clunubis ① and on Mt. Cluvimpus - Ancient Enma.

Yo-kai Watch Blasters

Nagatha can be found on Patrol Missions in Downtown Springdale.

She is required for the Yo-kai Ladies’ Society Yo-kai Circle.

Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble

Nagatha can be found in stage 114, 126, 137, 146, 173, secret stage 5-5, 6-6, 7-5, 8-1 and stage 21 on Super Mystery Way.

She can also be freed from the Crank-a-kai with a Purple Coin, a Great Purple Coin and an Excitement Coin.

Nagatha first appears In EP104, having inspirited Katie who starts nagging her classmates for not doing a good job at cleaning(despite not doing anything to fix It). Nate discovers her hovering near Katie near the entrance of the school, after Whisper identifies her, Nate Is quick to want her gone, fearing that Katie might stay like that for the rest of her life, Nate summons Happierre to get Nagatha away from Katie, he starts off by asking how her day was, to which Nagatha retorted by asking why It would matter, how Happierre could work while being so cheerful, which In turn, plows over Happierre's attempts at getting her away from Katie. In another attempt to subdue Nagatha, Nate summons Enduriphant, thinking that he cannot be broken, this is quickly wrong when Nagatha starts challenging his mental belief that can endure anything. In a final attempt, and with a suggestion from Jibanyan, Nate summons Copperled to deal with Nagatha, Nate finds out that Nagatha and Copperled used to be married but divorced due to their arguments, while talking, Copperled manages to almost get Nagatha to fall in love with him again, until Copperled gets a text from another yo-kai who wants to see him, Nagatha, having read the text somehow, quickly broke into rage, angrily, she gives Nate her medal, telling him to summon her If he wanted something done right, she then leaves the school while Copperled, Jibanyan, Nate, and Whisper watches her, agreeing to never summon her.

She makes a minor appearance In EP142 with Copperled as her dance partner.

Etymology

  • "Otsubone-sama" is the term otsubone with the -sama honorific. Said term used to mean "lady-in-waiting", but in modern times it refers to unmarried office ladies.
  • "Nagatha" is a portmanteau of the word nag or nagging, and the female name Agatha.
  • In German, "Nörgelika" is a combination of "nörgeln" (nagging) and the female name "Angelika".
  • Her Spanish name, "Pilicajosa" is a combination of "Pelirroja" (Redhead) and the name "Pilar" and "Encajosa" (Embedded).

Origin

Nagatha is likely based on the ohaguro-bettari, a female youkai similar to the nopperabou (see Faysoff#Origin) that has no facial features save for a mouth full of teeth blackened by ohaguro (ancient custom of dyeing one's teeth to protect them from decay and for aesthetic purposes).
