"A Tengu with hair the color of fire. Legend says it causes a drought when humanity needs to be taught a lesson."


Flengu (Japanese: ほむら天狗 Homura Tengu) is a Fire attribute Rank S Rare Yo-kai of the Mysterious tribe introduced in Yo-kai Watch.

According to his Yo-kai Keystone, he is classified as the Omamori tribe.

Like Tengu, Flengu has wild shaggy hair that trail down to his feet, carries a leaf fan, and has tengu-geta on his feet. His hakama is colored blue, his shirt lavender-ish in hue, and his skin a dark tan in hue.

He is apparently known to cause droughts in order to punish humanity.

Flengu rarely appears on Moonlight Pass in Blossom Heights during the day (on the trees surrounding the house north of Shoten Temple).

Flengu can be obtained at the Mystery Way - End Point (Main Line) Crank-a-kai.

Yo-kai Watch 3

Flengu can be found in the "Tengular Bells" Yo-kai spot in Harrisville's Temple of Virtue.

He can also be freed from the Mount Wildwood Crank-a-kai with a Yellow Coin.

Flengu can also be found in the 4th dungeon of the Cluphinx Clenched Paw as a sentinel Yo-kai.

Yo-kai Watch Blasters

Flengu is exclusive to Red Cat Corps. He is a prize for the Big Boss Mission Hunt for Ultra Demuncher! as a 4 Red Cat Corps only prize. He can also be found on Patrol Missions on VIP patrol.

He is required for the Red Cat Corps Leaders Yo-kai Circle.

Etymology

  • "Flengu" is a contraction of flame and tengu, which is also the translation of his Japanese name (Japanese: ほむら天狗).
  • "Flamngu" combines flama (flame) and Tengu.
  • "Sengu" is a combination of "sengend" (scorching) and Tengu.
  • "Tenguflamma" is a combination of "Tengu" and "fiamma" (flame).

Origin

Flengu's fire alignment and tendency for punishing humanity might be a reference to karura, a humanoid bird creature related to the Hindu legendary birds called garuda. It generates flames that scorch the sinful, and it gives its name to the fiery halo surrounding Acala, the fierce-eyed Buddhist god that smites the wicked. Karura are a stock character in gigaku plays, and are believed to be a prototype for the depictions of tengu (see Tengu#Origin).
