Duwheel (Japanese: あおべえあかべえ Aobee Akabee) is a Boss Yo-kai introduced in Yo-kai Watch.

Biology

On his cheery side, Dunwheel is a floating head with blue skin and dark blue facial hair. He has red face markings and purple eyes. Two, large horns sprout from his chin, and two, smaller ones sprout from his temples. He's surrounded by a giant golden wheel with five fire wisps. When upside down, his skin and fire wisps turn red. His face markings become orange.

Leadoni, Payn, and Signiton seem to be some sort of underlings. He is such a great boss to them that they decided to fight the player to keep his balding secret.

Yo-kai Watch

Duwheel is an optional Boss Yo-kai in the Abandoned Tunnel, who can be reached after clearing the Rank A Watch Lock and repairing the mine cart.

Duwheel switches between his two forms during the battle. He can hit all Yo-kai in the front row with elemental attacks that also Inspirit them. His weak point is one of the five wisps in his wheel, which he spins at regular intervals to shuffle them. One of the wisps has a tiny crack in it, and the "weakness" wisp will always be in the same relative position to it through the whole battle.

Duwheel appears as an optional boss in the Abandoned Tunnel during the Quest "Treasure Hunters Pt. 2."

Etymology

  • "Aobee Akabee" translates to "Is it blue, or is it red?"
  • "Duwheel" is a portmanteau of "wheel" and "duo" or "dual."
  • "Duoleta" is a portmanteau of "ruleta" (roulette) and "duo."
  • "Janusrad" comes from "Janus" (Roman god for duality) and "Rad" (wheel).

Origin

Duwheel is based on the wanyuudou (Japanese: 輪入道 wanyuudou, wheel monk), a hellish youkai that appears as the tormented face of a man set in a flaming ox-cart wheel. Born from the souls of sinners, the wanyuudou travels through mountains and villages looking for criminals and corrupt priests, dragging them down to Hell to judge their deeds. It's unwise to try to spy on the wanyuudou out of curiosity, for it is cruel and sadistic and will punish the onlooker for his/her insolence. The best protection against the wanyuudou is to place a sign on the door that says, "Here is the Mother's birthplace."
