Gin Akatsuki was Jinro's best friend and former partner who was tragically killed in combat before he could fulfill his dream of joining the Shinsengumi.

History
Not much is known about his past, but judging from what little of it we've seen, Gin was an orphan who survived by stealing from those around him. One day, when he was caught and getting beaten up by a group of villagers, Gin met an orphaned wild boy who tried to save him from the mob, although he failed and both of them wound being captured and branded as criminals. Despite all of that, Gin was impressed by the boy's actions and offered to be his partner, giving him the name Jinrou Akatsuki for his wolf-like nature and the fact both of them were living in the Akatuski Temple.
