Forget Me Not

MAJIMA CONSTRUCTION IS AT WORK! This article is a stub and is under construction.

Forget Me Not is the 32nd substory featured in Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Plot

On Carriage Highway in Yokohama, Ichiban meets a woman named Kaede Tono. She begins a conversation with Ichiban, saying that she knew she would eventually meet him again someday, and also mentions that Ichiban had once saved her from being assaulted in Kamurocho. Ichiban responds that he doesn't remember saving her, and that if something like that really happened in Kamurocho, he is surprised they never managed to meet again there. Kaede then mentions that, because she's no longer confined to a hospital bed, she was going around and crossing items off her bucket list; and her first task was to find Ichiban.

Ichiban decides the two should celebrate on Kaede's "return to the outside world", believing that she was only recently released from the hospital. Kaede and Ichiban depart for an arcade, where Ichiban wins a prize from the UFO Catcher for Kaede. They both also take pictures using the Print Circle, which Kaede remarks is something she's always wanted to do. The two reflect on the image, and then leave the arcade for their next destination. The owner of the arcade watches them walk off, apparently confused.

They then arrive at Pocket Cafe for a quick meal. Ichiban orders an extra glass of water for Kaede, which catches the waitress off guard. While walking away, she assumes Ichiban's date will show up eventually, despite Kaede being seated at the same table. While ordering food, Kaede states she isn't that hungry, but she does request an orange juice. Ichiban finishes his food, and they both leave the Pocket Cafe; as they are doing so, the waitress notes that the orange juice wasn't touched at all.

While walking past a pachinko parlor, a group of thugs try to mug Ichiban. They fight, and Ichiban defeats the three thugs. After doing so, Kaede notices that it's getting dark, which means their date is almost over. She says she'd like to go to one last place with Ichiban.

Now night, the two arrive at Hamakita Park and admire the city lights. It's here that Kaede reveals she always used to watch Ichiban from her hospital room all the time and grew to admire him. She then says she had fallen in love with Ichiban, which catches him off guard. After he recovers, Kaede requests that Ichiban lives long and happily, for the both of them. Before Ichiban can ask what she means, a police officer arrives and believes that Ichiban is drunk. Ichiban apologizes for making a scene and turns back to face Kaede, who had vanished. The police officer threatens Ichiban, who, after realizing what had just happened, then responds that he was just about to leave. The officer then walks away, leaving Ichiban alone.

Ichiban turns back out towards the city lights, then looks at the Print Circle photo he had taken with Kaede earlier; it now only showed Ichiban. He reflects that maybe he'll get a chance to meet Kaede again, once it was his time to pass on.

Trivia

  • Throughout the substory, there are subtle hints that Kaede isn't physically there:
    • Kaede asks that Ichiban carry the plush toy from the UFO Catcher, instead of holding it herself.
    • The waitress at Pocket Cafe does not notice that Kaede is already sitting at the table with Ichiban.
    • While Ichiban is talking about how food makes him bloated, Kaede responds to him, saying how wonderful it must feel to age and to feel your own body maturing, and then wishes that she could've done that.
    • The three thugs claim that Ichiban is apparently alone, and then mock him for seeming like a child talking to his imaginary friend while Ichiban is speaking to Kaede.
