The X-Reader is a mechanic in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed.
Overview
The X-Reader is a handheld terminal belonging to Matthew. It responds to signs of City survivor presence. When the X-Reader detects a signal, a notification chime will sound and one side of the mini-map will light up in the direction of the signal. As the party gets closer to the signal, the chime will become louder and more frequent and the entire rim of the mini-map will glow. By pressing the minus button, the X-Reader will be silenced and will not glow or chime in response to a signal.
Upgrading the X-Reader
Once Tinkering With the X-Reader is accepted, the ability to upgrade the X-Reader at rest spots becomes available. There are five possible upgrades for the X-Reader, with each requiring specific materials. The improved functions are useful for finding items and treasures as well as analyzing enemy data.
Completing one of these upgrades is required to complete Tinkering With the X-Reader, while completing all five is required to gain Community with Tiny Timtim.
