Hraesvelg

Hraesvelg (Japanese: フレスベルグ, Furesuberugu, Fresberg) is a Skell in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition[1]. Hraesvelg uses a Japanese sword-like weapon and has a unique form of flight. It was developed by Grenada Galactic Group and its weapons can not be altered, leaving it with set weapons.[2] Its flight form allows a perspective in the cockpit.[3]

The level 60 upgrade of this Skell is the Hraesvelg Lord.

Description

Hraesvelg is a custom Light Frame based Skell model boasting high Potential and Evasion along with a unique set of Arts. However, it suffers from meager offensive stats, limited customization, and a low Fuel capacity offset by its low GP usage.

Liesel joins with the level 20 variant, GD0920, after completing New Skell on the Block. The level 30 Hraesvelg frame can be purchased for 248,000 Credits and the level 50 frame costs 1,980,000 Credits after the quest as well.

Its equipment cannot be changed but can be Augmented.

After Thinking Makes It So, Hraesvelg will have two wing blades attached to its lower legs and will be able to transform into a jet plane. By pressing B while flying, Hraesvelg will transform and enter cruise mode. In cruise mode, Hraesvelg will always be moving forwards with flight stick controls. It cannot target enemies and will no longer be able to boost but can now do an aileron roll for additional speed by pressing A. In addition, Hraesvelg will gain two new complementary arts: Wing Blade and Hunter's Blow.[1]

Weapons and Arts

Hraesvelg is one of the few Skells that cannot be altered, leaving it with set weapons. Unlike other Skells, It technically uses the same weapons two weapons for sidearms just in different forms. • While other Skells transform into vehicles for faster land speed, Hraesvelg will hover akin to other Skells over water. This also gives it a gradual descent while falling and maintains much more of its forward velocity while in the air.
  • Cruise Mode can be activated whenever a Hraesvelg is not physically touching the ground.
  • The animation for entering and exiting a Hraesvelg is also used by the Ares Skells.

Etymology

Hraesvelg or Fresberg are simplified alternate names for Hræsvelgr, a jötunn in Norse mythology and portrayed as the eagle-shaped originator of the wind.
