For those who have not completed games in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, this page contains spoilers regarding the plot. Discretion is advised. |
The Giants are an extinct race in Xenoblade Chronicles that once lived on Bionis. They were extant alongside the High Entia and Machina before the conflict between Bionis and Mechonis, having arisen on the Bionis' Shoulder and spread across the Bionis, but died out before the events of the main game. Their ruins exist all over the world, but details of their life and disappearance are shrouded in mystery.
Known Giants
- Arglas: The first Giant seen in the game is imprisoned on Prison Island, and introduces himself as Zanza. Zanza claims to have created the Monado and be the progenitor of the Homs, but these are later revealed to be feats of Zanza himself rather than Giants. In the distant past Arglas was friends with Egil and in contact with the Machina civilization, and took up the Monado only to be possessed by Zanza.
- King Agni: Presumably interred in King Agni's Tomb in Makna Forest, Agni's life is unknown but for his legacy in location names in Makna Forest and the Bionis' Shoulder. Agni's Birthplace is a shallow pool on the shoulder, with Agni's Skygarden Ruins relatively nearby. The Agni Tablet stands near his tomb, and Agni's Tomb contains the Heart of the Giants treasure and the Monado "Eater" Records, suggesting he may have had some knowledge of the Monado. His name is evoked in the Monado Agni and Agni Plate, although these have no stated relation to the Giant and may not be connected.
- Bafalgar: May refer to the place rather than an individual Giant. Presumably interred in Bafalgar Tomb in Tephra Cave, which also contains the Sacrificial Altar, Prayer Room, and Soothsayer's Crypt. The Truth of the Giants and Starlight Book is hidden here. The Giant's soothsayer is credited in quest dialogue with the near extermination of the White Spiders, the Arachno nemeses of the Giants which existed in Tephra Cave and Satorl Marsh. After the death of the soothsayer, it is said that the tables turned and the Giants themselves were hunted to extinction. Befalgar Pedestal is named similarly.
- Dickson: At the Mechonis Core, Dickson is revealed to have been a Giant alive during Arglas' possession by Zanza. It is unclear how old Dickson was at that point. He is fought in his Giant form late in the game.
The Giants' Ruins
There are ruins of Giant origin in Tephra Cave, Bionis' Leg, Makna Forest, Satorl Marsh, Valak Mountain, and Bionis' Shoulder, all deserted from eons ago. They can be difficult to distinguish from High Entia ruins in some areas (both are present in Satorl Marsh and Valak Mountain) but High Entia ruins are more structured while Giants' ruins have more chaotic and natural shapes. Quests can be received to unlock several of the ruins from explorers and researchers, who will in turn give the party three treasures related to the Giants. Once all three are obtained, the party will be able to explore the final ruins at the top of Valak Mountain.
- Truth of the Giants - quest chain ending with The Gratitude of Bafalgar, received from Shura in Colony 9.
- Daring of the Giants - quest chain ending with The Giants' Treasure, received from Kacha in Satorl Marsh.
- Heart of the Giants - quest chain ending with Mystery of Makna Ruins 4, received from Lupa in Frontier Village.
The Giants' Treasure Chests

They are stationary treasure chests that can be found in various locations through Bionis. They contain precise items that can be equipment, advanced Art Books and quest items. Most of them are almost certainly relics of the past when the Giants inhabited Bionis, and appear in various Giants' ruins. These chests can be found at the following locations:
- King Agni's Tomb (Makna Forest)
- Three Sage Summit (Valak Mountain)
- First Sanctum (Prison Island)
- Second Sanctum (Prison Island)
- Central Hall (Prison Island)
- Nerthis Necropolis (Bionis' Shoulder)
- Xen's Thoroughfare (Bionis' Shoulder)
- Gran Dell Ramparts (Bionis' Shoulder)
- Gran Dell (Bionis' Shoulder)
- Zekr Marga Quarry (Bionis' Shoulder)
- Agni's Skygarden Ruins (Bionis' Shoulder)
- Tranquil Tarn (Bionis' Shoulder)
Notes
- According to Xenoblade: The Secret File, the Giants were created, along with the High Entia, from Telethia that were granted intelligence. However, the ability to revert into Telethia is a trait particular to the High Entia.
- Since several Giant's Treasure Chests can be found in Prison Island, it is possible that it served as home to some in the past.
- Agni's English name is the same name as the Hindu god of fire.
- The Soothsayer's Crypt contains a glowing window with three circles arranged in a triangular fashion. A similar pattern appears on Alvis' coat and the Meyneth Monado, inverted.
