Alcamoth

Spoiler alert

The future doesn't belong to you!

For those who have not completed games in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, this page contains spoilers regarding the plot. Discretion is advised.

Alcamoth, or the Imperial Capital Alcamoth (Japanese: 皇都アカモート, Kōto Akamōto, alt. Imperial City Achamoth; English dub: /ˈælkəˌmɒθ/), is an area in Xenoblade Chronicles.

Overview

Alcamoth is the Royal Capital City of Bionis. Populated by the High Entia race, it is the biggest city in Xenoblade Chronicles. The city hovers over Eryth Sea, and can only be reached from the teleporter at Centre Gate.

Most of Alcamoth is sheltered from weather, but its clear domes allow the outside weather to be seen. The weather changes to a constant thunderstorm during the first visit to Prison Island, and returns to normal afterwards.

After the events at the Mechonis Core (during Chapter 16), it becomes impossible to Skip Travel into Alcamoth. The place has been filled with enemies, the High Entia who do not have Homs DNA and have been transformed into Telethia. The Centre Gate becomes the only way to enter the capital city. Skip traveling out of Alcamoth, however, remains possible.

In Future Connected

Alcamoth (Japanese: 皇都アカモート, Kōto Akamōto; English dub: /ˈælkəˌmɒθ/), is an area in Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected. The city, now floating beside the Bionis' Shoulder, is in ruins and abandoned save for roaming enemies, primarily Fogbeasts. It can only be reached via the transporter on the remaining Hovering Reef, Soltnar Seal Island. The rift in time-space is found here.

In Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Main article: Keves Castle

In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Alcamoth reappears extensively remodeled as Keves Castle, the Castle of Keves, and is located by the Syra Hovering Reefs. It also appears as Alcamoth during the opening and ending cutscenes, during a flashback showing when Aionios was formed, and in a painting in the Queen's Chambers within Keves Castle. Keves Castle includes the Imperial Palace portion of Alcamoth, but the main city portion that was formerly the Main Entrance, the Fountain of Hope and the Fountain of Eternity have all been removed, replaced by a bridge to Fort O'Virbus in the Syra Hovering Reefs, which is now the main city attached to the Castle. The Centre Gate, which used to facilitate travel between the Eryth Sea and Alcamoth, still exists as the Tengate Ruins on Daedal Isle in the Erythia Sea.

Etymology

It is possible that Alcamoth's name is derived from Achamoth, one of several terms from Gnosticism found in the game. Achamoth is the "Lower Sophia," the part that fell or was left behind outside of the pleroma.

Trivia

  • Unlike Colony 9, the rebuilt Colony 6, Frontier Village, and the Fallen Arm, there do not appear to be any residential buildings in Alcamoth outside of the Imperial Palace.
  • Alcamoth bears some resemblance to Solaris from Xenogears. Both floating cities are more advanced than the others and their inhabitants are turned into strange creatures, Telethia and Wels that merge with a God, Zanza and Deus.
  • In Future Connected, the map was rotated ninety degrees but the collectable distribution was not, resulting in much of Alcamoth being depopulated. This can be seen on FrontierNav.
