Bullet Swarm is an ability of the Heavy Class in XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
“ | Standard shots with the primary weapon no longer end the turn, if taken as the first action. | ” |
– In-Game Description, XCOM: Enemy Unknown |
Description
Two possible shots per turn equals more potential damage and kills, and even in the case of misses, causes more destruction of the enemy's light cover. Bullet Swarm also allows for more than just a double shot as the Heavy can take other actions after shooting once such as Move, Hunker Down, Grenade, Reload, or Overwatch. This opens up a variety of tactical options like Shoot & Scoot to protect the Heavy from retaliatory fire or to advance on an objective. However, the Heavy cannot use any kind of rocket after firing with Bullet Swarm, as rockets take two action points to fire.
Notes
- The Overdrive ability for MEC Troopers is functionally identical to Bullet Swarm.
- Although the skill description reads "Standard shots with the primary weapon", which is correct as it applies to a Heavy-class soldier, it is not completely accurate. In actuality, Bullet Swarm applies to any standard shot, which becomes apparent when a non-Heavy Class soldier gains this skill through Training Roulette; the skill also fully applies to Pistols (secondary weapons), whereby the soldier may fire their Pistol without ending their turn.
- In Enemy Within with Training Roulette enabled, this skill is not available to Snipers, due to Double Tap.
