Sega Corporation is a Japanese video game developer and publisher that was founded on June 3, 1960 and headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Following a downturn in the arcade business in the early 1980s, the company began to develop video game consoles between 1983 and 2002 - the first being Sega Master System in 1983 and the last being the Dreamcast in 1998.
As well as video game consoles, Sega is well known for a number of successful video game franchises, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Total War, and Yakuza. Sonic, Sega's mascot, is internationally recognized.
