Chernobyl is a partially abandoned city in Ukraine's Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, about 90 kilometres (60 mi) north of Kyiv. Before its evacuation, the city had about 14,000 residents but now has less than a tenth of that.
On April 26, 1986, one of the reactors at the Chernobyl nuclear plant exploded, creating the world's worst nuclear disaster. Some Russians believe a mysterious man named Yaponchik was directly responsible for the Chernobyl disaster, which they tied to Biblical prophecies of the apocalypse.
Irradiated salvage material from the disaster would later change an unknown person into a monstrous flatworm-like mutant.
