The Tidemother is a being worshiped by the tidesages of Kul Tiras.[1] Most people on Kul Tiras look to the seas for guidance the same way others look to the Light, but the tidesages have a much deeper connection with the water.[2] The Kul Tirans have always survived primarily on their wits and bravery, for while the Light rewards conviction, the ocean demands activity.[3] Long have the tidesages listened to the sea to guide their ships and their people, gentle whispers imperceptible to most. But in recent times, the voices changed, becoming demanding and even violent.[4] This led to the corruption of Lord Stormsong, the Tidesage Council and many other followers, and their fall to the Void.
The magical wards — the Tidemother's Wrath, Pride, and Radiance — that guard the Shrine of the Storm were said to be gifts from the sea itself. They long protected Kul Tiran flagships against even the fiercest storms, but after the tidesages settled in Stormsong Valley, the wards have instead kept the Shrine safe.[5] To enter the Shrine of the Storm one must use the 
[Rod of Tides], which Tideguard Victoria states "deemed" the player character worthy; this perhaps implies the Tidemother could reject one from entering the Shrine of the Storm.
Notes

[Caress of the Tidemother]. Sharas'dal previously belonged to Queen Azshara.
[Tidemother's Cover] drops from the Stormwall Blockade in the Battle of Dazar'alor.- The Deep Mother was a similar character from the non-canon RPG, worshiped by murlocs.
- An expression of shock for followers of the Tidemother is "For tides' sake."[6]
- According to Kul Tiran folklore, the Tidemother intervened when a great storm threatened to destroy Boralus early in its history and the mermaid Halia was desperately trying to construct a seawall to protect against the storm: a crest of the Tidemother's magic swept through the harbor like lightning, jolting Halia's mermaid sisters awake so that they could help her complete her task.[3]

- The Tidemother may be a water elemental since her followers are described as listening to the sea, or perhaps a kraken given all the kraken imagery in Kul Tiran and tidesage architecture.
- She may simply be the Spirit of Water as identified by humans who were unfamiliar with shamanism, or perhaps Neptulon taking another form.
[The Dreadwake] is held aloft by an unknown kraken-faced god of the deeps that may be her or N'Zoth.
- The Tidemother may be Elune, given her "whispers" play on the tides, the quest
[5-30] Power Over the Tides has the Orb of Elune being used to banish enraged water elementals, the Lost Sailors' Memorial has a prayer to the White Lady for protection. The Lost Sailors' Memorial also has a broken statue that is the same model of one of the night elf Elune statues used in the Tomb of Sargeras instance. - She may be Queen Azshara, or rather Azshara may have been impersonating the Tidemother since the tidesages claim that the Tidemother's voice changed recently, causing the corruption of Lord Stormsong and others. Her new whispers are not to be listened to. Interestingly, Azshara's elementals are named exactly as the three wards protecting the Shrine of the Storm.
