Limpy Joe was a friend of Hugh Glass. The mentally unstable Hugh speaks inconsistently about Joe: he claims that the "wolfmen" got Joe and Flannel McGee, while Hugh himself managed to escape from the monsters with Griselda. However, upon meeting adventurers, Hugh mistakes them for Joe[1] and asks them to limp down to the Eastwind Shore to get some fish for Griselda. When the adventurers return, Hugh changes his mind again and instead accuses them of being Joe's murderer, then threatens them into leaving.[2]
