Treyse

Treyse was a witcher and the leader of the School of the Cat during the youth of Geralt of Rivia. His second-in-command was Guxart.[1]

Biography

For a few years, the Cat School was based in Hertch and funded by King Radowit II of Kaedwen, along with the School of the Wolf. On the king's orders, the two schools were required to engage in emotional integration measures, though Treyse only participated halfheartedly due to the deep philosophical differences between the schools. Additionally, a Witcher Tournament was organized to serve as an exam for both schools. The winner would be granted exclusive rights to operate in Kaedwen and continue receiving royal funding.

Treyse and the Wolf School leader, Rennes, were summoned by Kaedweni soldiers to investigate a nearby murder scene. Accusations arose that the crime had been committed with a witcher's blade, reinforced by the discovery of two witcher medallions, which Treyse quickly pointed out were Wolven. While Rennes was dismissed and told to send Vesemir to the palace, Treyse was asked to accompany the Kaedweni to the king. In secret, Treyse had been approached by the king's astrologer, Astrogarus, with a plot to betray the Wolf School during the tournament. To this end, Treyse ordered Guxart's deputy to secretly train the Cat witchers in wrestling to gain an advantage.

On the day of the tournament, events unfolded as planned. While the tournament progressed, Astrogarus gave the signal, and Treyse ordered the Cat witchers to attack the Wolves. As the Cats sprang their trap, Kaedweni soldiers unexpectedly loosed arrows not only at the Wolves but also at the Cats. Treyse, hit by a crossbow bolt, screamed in outrage, declaring that the soldiers were supposed to target only the Wolf witchers. Unbeknownst to him, the king had always intended to betray both schools, planning to eliminate all witchers present.

The massacre that followed resulted in the deaths of all the witchers, including Treyse. The only survivor of the carnage was Geralt of Rivia.[1]
