The Will to Love is a song performed by Wreck-55 (with Matt Olsen as lead singer) in the episode S is for Self, and one of the unreleased songs from season 2 of the TV series.
The lyrics were written by Greg Weisman, who also served as score editor for all the songs in the episode. In-universe, Matt played guitar, Nigel Ashcroft base, Pedro keyboards, and Joel Wright drums.[1]
Unlike with the other unreleased songs, an additional portion of this song is available officially. It can be heard during the closing credits of most versions of the episode, with the exception of those using the American theme song; see S is for Self for details.
Lyrics
The following lyrics are reproduced verbatim from Greg Weisman's website. Any oddities such as typographical errors and audio discrepancies are presented exactly as they appear there.
1.
So many strangers on the street.
Yeah, nearly everyone you meet.
Can't relate, can't translate, can't create
A connection. No.
2.
Easier to keep your distance.
Tread the path of least resistance.
Don't engage, keep to your cage, stay offstage
For protection.
3.
Then everything changes.
She's there. Life rearranges.
Wingéd angel from above…
Helped me find the Will… the Will to love…
The Will to love… The Will to love…
4.
I figured I'd stay on the shelf.
Truth be told, didn't trust myself:
Always fade, don't make the grade, too afraid
Of rejection. Oh…
5.
I didn't think I had the strength
To find a girl on my wavelength.
Just a runt, always punt. No will to hunt
For perfection.
6.
Then everything changes.
She's there. Life rearranges.
Wingéd angel from above…
Helped me find the Will… the Will to love…
The Will to love… The Will to love…
7.
Game's full of surprises.
Live our share of compromises.
Still when push comes to shove…
She's just the Will to love.
She's just the Will to love.
I found the Will to love.
8.
And everything changes.
She's here. Life rearranges.
Wingéd angel from above…
She is just the Will… the Will to love.
The Will to love… The Will to love… Oh…
The Will to love…
The Will to love… The Will to love… Oh…
The Will to love…
