Sprout is a fictional character from the Wild Cards series of books.
History
Sprout is the mentally handicapped daughter of Mark Meadows. She is the center of Mark's universe and was also the center of two custody battles with Mark's ex-wife, Kimberly Anne Gooding nee Cordayne. After Mark lost his second hearing, Sprout became a ward of the state. Mark, with the help of the jumper, K.C. Strange and the Takisian hybrid Durg at’ Morakh, managed to rescue her from the Reeves Diagnostic and Development Institute. Later, Sprout was left with friends at a commune in New Mexico, while Mark went to Takis with Dr. Tachyon and Jay Ackroyd.
Upon Mark's return, he found that he was wanted on drug charges as well as for kidnapping Sprout. He again left her, this time with her grandfather, retired General Marc Meadows.
Father and daughter were finally reunited when Mark became the de facto ruler of New Vietnam, but their happiness was short-lived. The pair were kidnapped by Card Sharks who put Mark to work refining the Black Trump virus, using Sprout as bait to force Mark's compliance.
Sprout was rescued by from that predicament by Mr. Nobody.
Appearance
Sprout is a beautiful, willowy young girl. She has inherited her mother's figure and her father's blonde hair and blue eyes. Although she is mentally handicapped, she displays none of the other physical attributes of Down syndrome or other common mental disorders, indicating that her condition might be related to her parents' drug use or the wild card virus.
