All the students bring their pets to school. The pets have unusual names, leading to confusion from Mrs. Jewls.

- Certain descriptions of Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger mention Miss Mush preparing the pet day event in Mrs. Jewls's class, but this is never mentioned in the book itself.
- This is the only chapter in the main Wayside School series in which each student in Mrs. Jewls's class is mentioned. However, the Three Erics only appear on the chart at the end, though their pets are mentioned.
- A cow mooing is mentioned at the start of the chapter, though none of the students have a pet cow. It could the cow that Louis heard.
- The "Todd barked" line is later referenced in "Nose."
- Mrs. Jewls states that she likes strawberry yogurt the best. However, in "True or False", it stated that she is allergic to strawberries.
- The premise of this chapter with the pets having confusing names is reminiscent of the famous comedy routine, "Who's on First?", by American comedy duo, Abbott and Costello.
