Wario Waft

The Wario Waft is one of the attacks that Wario can perform in each of his playable appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series, as part of his down special. Wario can get gassy if he eats an object with his neutral special, but he also builds it up over time, eventually being able to release a turbulence-inducing "stink bomb". The amount of time between uses indicates the power of this polarizing attack.

  • Uncharged, Wario only releases a tiny "poot", which deals no damage, but trips opponents. He lets out an embarrassed and confused chuckle afterwards, which leaves him vulnerable to attacks.
  • At partial charge (~15 to 54 seconds), he uses a fart that creates a small dispersion of gas. Though it does have 10% (Brawl)/12% (3DS/Wii U/Ultimate) base damage, it has rather unremarkable knockback and is best used only as a last resort due to its middling speed.
  • Half charge (~55 to 109 seconds) has him unleash his quickest fart, propelling him upwards. In Brawl, this is actually the most optimal version of the move, as its damage scales all the way up to 31% at the tail end of the charge, and the accompanying knockback modifier can make it a one-hit KO in many scenarios. 3DS and Wii U saw the move receive changes, however, bringing its maximum power down to 24% and cutting down on its knockback noticeably. In spite of this, it still sees use as an occasional combo finisher.
  • Finally, full charge (110 seconds), indicated by a bright flash and Wario glowing a dark, subtle yellow, serves as the most punishing version of the attack. He shoots himself impressive distances with a massive bowel blast, and has armor just before releasing and while he's rocketing up. The explosion can deal up to a staggering 42% in Brawl, and 27% in subsequent games, but it has a much longer lingering hitbox on his head as he travels vertically, dealing 20% and serving as a deterrent itself. The knockback was significantly improved since its first iteration, able to KO enemies at as low as 50% from the center of an average stage. Moreover, it can even see use as a recovery tool to get back onto the stage in dire situations.

Stemming from his general apathy towards his self-image and his unfettered love of garlic, the Wario Waft is widely agreed to be Wario's most devastating attack in all of Smash, giving him a powerful comeback factor that can more widely swing games in his favor if used properly.
