~ Spooge to Saul Goodman. |
Spooge is a supporting antagonist in Season 2 of Breaking Bad and a minor character in Season 6 of the prequel series Better Call Saul.
He is a dangerous meth addict who robbed Skinny Pete at knife-point with the assistance of his unnamed wife.
He was played by David Ury.
Biography
Past
It has been hinted that Spooge used to be either an EMT or a registered nurse due to instances of using sophisticated medical terminology, and if so, can be assumed drugs were also the reason of him being fired or leaving his job. Spooge at some unknown point would later meet and marry his wife and have a son with her, however they were more focused on doing drugs than taking care of him to their best ability.
Better Call Saul
In the episode "Hit and Run", Spooge arrives at Mrs. Nguyen's nail salon where he acquires Saul Goodman's services after hearing of how Saul got Lalo Salamanca off on a murder charge. Based on his appearance, Spooge appears relatively healthy and well dressed as he has not yet gotten addicted to meth but may have been in the early stages if he sought Saul’s assistance with something legal.
Between Shows
After the events of Better Call Saul and before the events of season two in Breaking Bad, both Spooge and his wife would begin smoking meth and quickly become addicted. Both of them would then start neglecting their son to the point he had to essentially take care of himself in their rundown home in Albuquerque.
Breaking Bad
Spooge and his wife manage to rob Skinny Pete for an ounce of meth at knife-point by setting up a scheme to corner him outside a stairwell. At the behest of Walter, Jesse Pinkman ends up going to their house with a gun to either retrieve the stolen meth or to get payment for it after Skinny Pete finds their address. Spooge makes the attempt to repay Jesse for the meth by trying to break an ATM he stole after murdering a store clerk, but Spooge's wife unexpectedly knocks Jesse out while he is distracted.
He starts to insult and verbally abuse his wife, calling her a skank repeatedly, which drives her to push the ATM onto his head, crushing his skull and killing him. After Spooge's death, his wife is taken into custody and his son is taken away to Child Protective Services, hopefully to either be taken care of by other family members or a new family entirely.
For a brief time after Spooge’s death, Jesse is credited with killing him, leading him to be feared and respected in Albuquerque's criminal underworld. However, Spooge’s wife later confesses to the murder, bringing Jesse’s reputation back to nothingness.
