Shiki Nanaya (七夜志貴, Nanaya Shiki) is one of the two secondary antagonists of Tsukihime franchise, alongside Nrvnqsr Chaos. He is a replica of the main protagonist Shiki Tohno.
He was voiced by Kenji Nojima in Melty Blood.
Overview
The Alternate Shiki Nanaya is an antagonist debuting first in Tsukihime, then appearing in Kagetsu Tohya and the Melty Blood games.
First appearing in Tsukihime, he appears in Ciel's route, the remains of kid Shiki Nanaya talk to the protagonist, Shiki Tohno in the True End. (where Shiki refuses to obey and then kills Arcueid because he loves Ciel more).
In Kagetsu Tohya, he appears as Shiki Tohno's taken form of nightmare of his murderous impulses, even killing him in one of the nights, other days/nights, he just provokes him or has a short talk with him.
In the first Melty Blood game and Melty Blood Re-ACT's story mode, he appears as TATARI's creation, though he quickly gets killed by Shiki due to TATARI's creations being weaker than the original. In Melty Blood Act Cadenza and Melty Blood Act Actress Again, he appears as a creation of White Len.
The differences between Nanaya and Tohno are that Nanaya has mastered the Nanaya Assassination Arts, isn't afraid to kill anyone (Tohno is afraid to kill humans, but he believes killing vampires is justifiable), and in most cases, he doesn't have Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, except in the first Melty Blood game's story mode, and also Re-ACT's. He also noticeably doesn't wear glasses.
Personality
Shiki Nanaya is arrogant, sarcastic, provoking as seen in Kagetsu Tohya and the Melty Blood games. Most of his win quotes mention murder and death, due to his obsession with killing. He likes teasing, even laughing at his opponents before the fight starts, as seen in his dialogues and intros in MB games. (Though he gets confused when he meets Miyako in MBAA, but he teases her in MBRE)
Relationships
Shiki Nanaya annoys and provokes most of characters he meets. In Kagetsu Tohya, he mostly talks to Shiki Tohno, the protagonist of the game, sometimes giving him some details, and sometimes starting a fight with him. In Melty Blood games, he provokes Miyako in her Re-ACT Arcade Mode, he also makes fun of White Len in Re-ACT (even telling her that she 'screwed up from the very beginning' for waking him up), Act Cadenza and Actress Again, and she mostly gets angry at him for his behavior towards her. In his dialogue against Akiha Vermillion (Re-ACT and Act Cadenza only) and Kouma Kishima (Act Cadenza and Actress Again), Nanaya sounds ready and content, telling Akiha "not to hold anything back", and wanting a "brain-frying battle to death" with Kouma.
Biography
Tsukihime
Shiki Nanaya appears in Tsukihime, mostly as Shiki's murderous side when he takes his glasses off. Shiki Tohno isn't biological member of the Tohno clan so, his Nanaya side appeared in most of Tsukihime's moments. In Arcueid route, Shiki's Nanaya blood takes over when he sees Arcueid, he stalks her and cuts her in 17 pieces due to her being a vampire since Nanaya is a family of assassins that kill anything that isn't humanlike, but she later resurrects and asks Shiki for help so, she is one of the vampires that Shiki actually likes and is friendly with, due to her cheerful and optimistic personality, and not wanting to suck human blood. In Arcueid and Ciel's routes, Shiki's Nanaya side appears to fight Nrvnqsr Chaos, in Arcueid's route, Nanaya fights Michael Roa Valdamjong. In Ciel's route, a kid version of Shiki Nanaya appears, talking to the protagonist Shiki and then later disappearing. In Akiha and Hisui's route, Shiki's Nanaya side takes over when he starts a fight to death with SHIKI Tohno, his adopted brother, and Akiha Tohno's biological brother. In Akiha, Hisui and Kohaku's route, a vampire Satsuki asks Shiki if he likes her, despite what choice is chosen, Nanaya takes over and kills Satsuki, though Shiki later regrets it. In Kohaku's route, Nanaya appears to fight Akiha in her Crimson Red Vermillion form. (Called Akiha Vermillion.) If wrong choices are chosen, he kills or gets killed by Akiha, resulting in a Bad End. Due to Kohaku having only one ending unlike other heroines who have two or more (Akiha has three endings), Shiki refuses to kill Akiha, and she returns back to the normal Akiha.
Kagetsu Tohya
Shiki Nanaya appears in Kagetsu Tohya as Shiki Tohno's fear of killing given form, although he has never killed anyone. Nanaya kills Tohno in one of the nights by snapping his neck (This move is called Kyokushi Nanaya, it's also his Arc Drive in the Melty Blood games, where he raises his knife, says "Kyokushi..." teleports and snaps opponent's neck and then says "Nanaya."), but due to Kagetsu Tohya being a dream world where every day repeats, Shiki is alive again despite what happens to him and the others around him. Nanaya gets decapitated by Kouma, never appearing again.
Melty Blood
In the first Melty Blood game and Melty Blood Re-ACT, Shiki Nanaya appears as TATARI's creation of Shiki's fear of killing. However, he quickly gets killed by Shiki Tohno. In Melty Blood Act Cadenza and Melty Blood Act Actress Again, he is a creation of White Len. In Melty Blood Re-ACT and Melty Blood Act Cadenza, he "disappears", while in Melty Blood Act Actress Again, he kills Kouma Kishima after their fight.
Melty Blood Act Cadenza
When choosing him in Arcade Mode in the PC English patch version of Melty Blood Act Cadenza, his story reads: "Eldest son of the ancient Nanaya family specializing in the assassination of hybrids. The Nanaya Family was destroyed by the Tohnos. Does not truly exist; is the "what if" Tohno Shiki was raised by the Nanayas.
